Hi Guys
I want to get right into modifying my BMW 635 race car kit. I am wanting to turn the Group A 86 race car into a Group C. No to do this I have to add flares and pump it the Guars of the kit.
Can anyone tell me please what size Evergreen Styrene Strip will I order.
I want to modify the front and rear bumper and add the width to the car.
Below is what I have now and what I am trying to achieve.

Thanks again guys

I think I saw generic resin flare kits available somewhere lately, not sure where. Or maybe I just dreamt it lol
Anyone know of any available in resin?

If you can't find any resin flares around, scratchbuilding is the way to go. I reckon you could make a pretty decent set of flares out of strip styrene.

Thanks for the reply
Can anyone tell me where to buy the strip styrene from, maybe a link to a ozi site that sells it. I know there are lots of thicknesses so what size would be a good starting point please.

If you're comfortable cutting strips from sheet, http://www.thepartsbox.com/ sells a few different thicknesses. I would go with 1mm, that way there's room for sanding/shaping Wink Even then I'd probably laminate a few strips and just grind out the inside once I had the right shape.

I actually get my styrene from here- http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page120.html
Much cheaper than most places, plus they have a pretty decent range. It's not in Australia though, so it only really works out better if you're going to get an arm full.

Other than that, I'm not sure what's around your area, but a decent hobby shop should stock Evergreen and/or Plastruct styrene. I'm not aware of any other websites here in Aus which sell the stuff, although I'm sure there'd be a handful.

As a general guide, 1mm in 1/25 = 1inch in 1:1 scale. I'm not sure of the exact measurements of those flares, but going by the pics you provided, I'd start with probably 3mm x 4mm strips. If you can't find the right size, keep in mind you can stack thinner strips to get the right thickness.

Anyone else care to chime in with more links and info?

I just found this while looking at Stuntman Mikes post about the new Eleanor kit and your question came to mind so I thought I would post this link up for you. Not sure if this would make the whole process easier for you rather than scratching the flares.

theres a HobbyOne store in Carindale, a fair drive from where you are, but they have big sheets of styrene for $4 a pop. Also wasnt there another BMW that came with flares? Iv built one before, but dont remember which one it was :s
