Australian Hot Rod Nationals, Gold Coast, Easter 2013
Hey guys,
As discussed in the QMHE thread, we have been invited to display our drag strip at the Hot rod Nationals at Easter (end of March) on the Gold Coast, thanks Chris. If you are planning on coming along I would suggest booking accomodation soon. If anyone needs some motel or appartment details let me know and I'll get some details for you. Would love to see some new faces to go with the regular reprobates and please bring some models, we will need hot rods and old style drag cars.
PM me if you need any more info.
Cheers
Kirk

The site is on the mezzanine floor of the main pavilion where most of the traders will be located. It will be locked at night and there will be a security guard at the main gate adjacent to the pavilion. I will organise tables, chairs, entry passes etc for those involved in the set up. Kiirk is coordinating the dragstrip display. Other displays - particularly dioramas, are welcome as well. Just let me know please.

Would love to make it guys, my wife and I had planned to drive up in her '33, but we will be nursing a newborn, so had to scrap that plan. But will be worth it.

Re: Australian Hot Rod Nationals, Gold Coast, Easter 2013
Hey guys,
This is coming up very quickly. I have been speaking with Chris and looks like we have a really cool spot. I need to know if anyone is coming so I can organise passes with Chris. Bump in Saturday morning early, bump out Sunday arvo. If you are coming I also need to know how many models you can bring, Hot Rods and early drag cars, even customs. The sooner you can let me know the better, so we know what models we need to get together. Understand if people can't make it.
Cheers

Re: Australian Hot Rod Nationals, Gold Coast, Easter 2013
I got a couple of pics but our ADSL has gone down, so can't upload anything, I'm doing this on the ipad. Rocket got a stack of pics and said he would post them.
Had a great 2 days, lots of very interested people with nothing but favorable comments. We had 120 cars on it, a lot of hot rods, could have done with some more race cars and trailers but it was still good. Bluedog, Rocket and myself spoke to quite a lot of fellow modellers and guys that wanted to get back into it. I made up some flyers with the forum details on it, out of 40 I brought home 7 so hopefully we may get some newbies.
Overall we had a great weekend. Just got to wait for Rocket to get his A into G.

Re: Australian Hot Rod Nationals, Gold Coast, Easter 2013
I want to thank Kirk, Graham and Trent for not only putting on an outstanding display but for being great ambassadors for the hobby. As an event organizer I was pretty busy but Kirk steped up and organised it all for me. As an organizer I was also approached by a number of people with comments about various parts of the weekend. (most of them favorable) but for the first time since I started doing model shows at this event, I had several people make specific mention of the model display and the "courteous young men" (you guys must have been on a break!) manning it. I even had a few of my mates who often consider model building as playing with toys, comment on how great the display was and that they spent a fair bit of time checking it out.
Thanks again to all of the guys who contributed to the dio.

Re: Australian Hot Rod Nationals, Gold Coast, Easter 2013
Seeing how slack arse Rocket hasn't posted any pics after telling me he would do it I'll post what I got. It has now grown an extra board, it now measures 4500 long x1200. We also re did the drag strip, looks a bit better.
