Blue Bike

My current project " Blue Bike ".  This will be 1/12 scale. The diorama will depict a guy working on a bike.  I am building an Aoshima Harley kit and will be using a Tamiya Motorsports Team figure. I am just planning this one as I go.

I have removed most of the lumps on the head of my figure that represented his hair.  Currently he looks like Kojak. I have dyed some Woodlands Scenics model railway grass and am going to attemp to give my figure a hair transplant once I have him painted and assembled.  Hopefully the operation will be successfull otherwise he may need to spend the rest of his days wearing a hat.

the bike looks good, I did a similar thing with my ZZZZZ-28 deals wheels driver, but I used fake wolf fur, I had to grind out a bit of the head to allow for the matting, and the hair stuck up where the matting curved. so do lots of test fitting. good luck with it

I was not modelling him on anyone and had not thought of giving him a name. However as he is going to be  kneeling beside the bike, Neil would be a very fitting name. From here on we shall refer to him as Neil. Thank you.

Regarding Neils hair - And I was thinking I was at the leading edge of a revolutionary new modelling technique - Only to find that the Aussies had already  " Been There - Done That ".

Blat - I had a look at your Hairy little figure. He looks good. I plan to make a beanie hat for Neil once I finnish the hair transplant. This should hide all traces of surgery.

Thanks, I used the roof of the car to hide the rough grey area (grey from super glue) a beanie is a good idea  

The Blue Bike gets closer to completion - finally. I started this in June. Can not believe it has taken so long to build. Just have to sort out the footboards and pedals and the mirrors now.

Over the last week I have been working on my cracked concrete base. I made a basic mould and cast some plaster of paris slabs. I have just " snapped " some to make some cracks. Looking ok so far.

The bike looks cool, put a black wash in the cracks, other good plaster to use is casting plaster its a fine one. lot easyer to work with too.

Thanks Allan. I have some Woodlands Scenics casting plaster which is quite expensive. As this was an experiment I used the cheaper plaster of paris. I gave it a coat of primer, then a base coat of light grey. Next I rubbed 4 different coloured pigments in to it then gave it a white wash. It has turned out quite good. Now looks like concrete.

Over the last month I have been working on a stack of bricks to sit on the left hand back corner of the base. I individually painted over 250 dolls house bricks then glued them on to the stack one by one. This has been a very time consuming process. Next job is to continue working on the figure.

WOW!! The detail in a simple pile of bricks is astounding mate, incredible work, right down to the leaf.  Can only shake my head.

Looks good. How did you do the mould or form to make the concrete?

Thanks DeeCee.  The amount of hours I spent on this was astounding also.  I think the key to the bricks looking good is to paint them numerous different shades of orange and red.

Hello tiking. I have seen some of your work in several places over the last year or so. You do some very nice dioramas.
About the concrete. I wanted to do it in individual squares rather than just scratch lines in to one of several materials that could be used.
I made a very simple mould. A small sheet of styrene with square box tube styrene glued on top in a square. I poured plaster of paris in to it and left it to set. Using the styrene worked out good as it flexed quite easily making it easy to get the plaster out of the mould. I then cut and sanded the 4 corner squares to fit my wooden chopping board base.
Before painting I carefully snapped bits off some of the squares to replicate cracks in the concrete. Once painted I glued all the bits to my base and while doing so glued in some grasses between the squares.

Harley Man is nearly ready for the Hair Transplant.

Harley man now has hair and a bandana. The major components of the diorama are now done so next is the small details.

He's pretty cool mate.  

He looks wild the stack of bricks look cool,first photo thought that is was a real pile of bricks until you see the second photo in your hand.

After having this project on hold for the last 6 months I am back working on it. With the major components mostly done,  I have been  focusing on some of the smaller details.

To change small spark plugs one needs small tools.

The super high detail you , tiking and some others on here get is mind numbing.

Oh and the gap on that top plug looks a little wide ....hope you have scale feeler gauges to adjust them !
