'50 Rat pickup
Well it's about time to show you guys what's on the bench now...the Corvette's stalled for a while.
I've had this idea in my head for quite a while and then I found an pic in a magazine that inspired me.
It's a '50 Ford pick-up done in a military/rat theme. I'm using the Jimmy Flintstone chopped '50 pick-up cab, a pick-up chassis that Fred had no need for and a Mopar donk. Was going to use a Revel Parts Pack 427 Ford power plant but it really didn't suit the style with finned rocker covers, so I'm using a spare 340 with stock rocker covers.
The wheels took a while to sort out, well the tyres actually, the wheels are from ThePartsBox and the military type tyres are from a wheel off an old armoured car kit that Jason at TPB gave me, I cast them in black and they might not even need paint.
Also using some bits out of the Revell '50 Ford F1 pick-up kit, floor, door panels, firewall, bonnet... but that won't be all. The chassis has been 'Z' ed, albeit in a weird way up front. It still needs some work on the back end of the chassis once I get the rear end sorted out....
The whole theme will be green and khaki with some sort of military markings and equipment on it.......still haven't decided whether it will have a tray or not.......maybe not.
The inspiration kicker;
My concept;
The chassis work;
The donk;
Yes I know a 340 has only 3 exhaust ports but I'm not getting that nit picky with this build, its sudo rat I guess. The exhaust came from an old '67 Charger kit and suits the look.
TPB tractor grille too;
More will follow.........just don't know when

Re: '50 Rat pickup
I meant to tell you. I think i've identified the chassis.
I think it's from the Monogram '39 Chevy Coupe/Delivery.
The one in my couple kit certainly looks the same and the engine is identical to the one that came with the chassis when I got it in a box of bits from evil-bay.
So, not a pick-up chassis at all.
Looks promising.

Ok here's the tray nearly done with the chopped down tailgate. Still have to clean up the joins in the tailgate and decide what to do for a floor...
Cheers TJ

The military theme should look great on this one!
I seen one like this some time ago on Ebay in silver, also very cool.

Re: '50 Rat pickup
It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this one, been busy doing home reno’s.
I’ve got the tray all sorted with a wood floor and tail light brackets, speaking of tail lights I’ve knocked up some coloured lenses for them too.
Also started the front end, making axle ends and steering arms along with the steering tie rod.
The interior is started too, with cushions added to the bomber seats and a scratch built ammo case to use as a console armrest.

Re: '50 Rat pickup
Well I’ve actually got a little done on the engine at last, love doing the fiddly wiring stuff.
I cut the molded-on belt off the pulley’s, turned some grooves in them and turned up one for the alternator, as it’ll have proper rubber strip for a belt when it’s all together. The dizzy is one I made and cast myself and all other bits are brass and copper wire & shim with the exception of the small linkage P/E bits, they’re from MCG.
A little work’s been done on the firewall as well as still working on the bonnet and just for ships and giggles I carved out a new shifter “knob”.
