White Road Boss
Hi guys, this is my current project. I'm hoping to turn these bits into
This! Unfortunately I only have this picture. There may be more out there but I can't find them .That aside, as with all my other builds, I figure if I'm happy with it then that's good enough. This is what I have done so far.
Chassis built as per instructions but I have swapped it over to right hand drive, added Auslowe tank brackets and the battery boxes and air tanks from the Auslowe trans kit. I have also replaced the kit brakes with S cam type brakes from various sources. I have since added a bit of plumbing to the chassis.
Stock kit motor with first attempt at very minor engine detailing which no one will see anyway.
Chassis painted. I prime with Auto One etch primer through an air gun with gp thinners. The top coat is Holts Duplicolour Gun Metal grey from a spray can into the air brush bottle and airbrushed on.
Wheels and tyres done. The fronts are the kit one and the rears are from Revells W900 with the red box art. Kit chrome was stripped off and wheels done in Alclad.
Back of cab cut ready for walk in sleeper.
Sun visor on and filling of kit locating holes etc that won't be used with the new air barrels. Had trouble getting the visor to sit nicely. No amount of gentle heating in water seemed to help.
Engine and trans painted. Engine is meant to be early Cummins brown for want of a better description. Used Humbrol 93 but not sure it's right. Any suggestions guys?
First coat of primer on the cab and sleeper. Still needs more filling and sanding. I think the roof spoiler is from the old Mack Cruiseliner, don't know about the air con unit but I added the front detail to make it look more like the original and cut the slots for the airhorns. Not sure that the real one did this but the spoiler sat way too high otherwise. I think the air con is too tall but I can live with it.
Interior cut and trans kit firewall added. That's it so far.
Thanks for taking the time to look.

Re: White Road Boss
Mate, your roof spoiler needs to be slanted back a bit more at the top, but other than that, it's an AA1+++ build so far. Desperado has been one of the 80's trucks that I've wanted to see built as a model for ages.

Re: White Road Boss
Thanks for that. I'll have a look at the picture. Yes, I agree it's not the best looking sleeper but seems to be the closest to the original one I could find. Hopefully it'll look better painted.

Re: White Road Boss
Not much has happened with this lately while I try and sort out fit issues. I'm going to have a crack at making my own alloy tanks using aluminium tube from Bunnings and flat sheet from K&S.The white pieces of tube towards the engine are to bring the cab up so it sits flush with the bonnet and the rear ones are for the back of the sleeper.
The tanks have only been roughly cut to length at this stage. I have got the first colour on ready to start masking out for the gold stripe. Also managed to find a photo showing the rear of the truck which will help a lot.

Re: White Road Boss
That's the second paint scheme the truck had, which was nicer than the first one. I want to built the replacement truck the KW.
Looking good time, let me know if you want more pics Tim I'll get you some.

Thanks for the comments guys. More pics would be great Rob. I think he rolled it over early on in it's life and this is the rebuilt version. I'm told it had spider rims first time round and the spoiler was put on to help hide the boxy shape of the sleeper but am unsure if this is true.

Re: White Road Boss
Have hit a bit of a hurdle with this one. Have the two stripe colours on - silver and gold, only to stumble across another picture that makes the colour combo look wrong. The black looks more dark grey which in turn makes the silver look a bluey colour. Even the scrolls change from red/orange to white. Not sure which way to go. The age and quality of the original photo probably plays a part so I think I'll lean towards the colours in the photo here but tone the black down. A few test runs beforehand I think.

Re: White Road Boss
Is the NEW photo takin at night under flouro lights ? Depending on the light and time of day colours can change . From memory the truck was black , i saw it when it was a tar baby .
Re: White Road Boss
Yeah, so I've heard. Apparently it had different stripes and spyder steer wheels first time round. Popular opinion here by the arty side of the family ( read women) suggest maybe satin black would be closer in sheen level to the gold and silver and then clear coat with satin once the decals are on. Can't point me in the direction of more pictures? Anyone?.....
Scummy, the new picture was taken in daylight but the camera is pointing in the general direction of the sun. Not right at it but close enough probably using a box brownie.
