Re: White Road Boss
Rob, you are the man! Great pics. The latest one I have is that back of the cab shot. Notice the scrolls appear white in that one and red/orange in the original photo I posted. The trailer shots help too, I'll need more tool boxes by the look of it! Found on facebook?- something else I'll have to get the kids to show me as long as it doesn't cut into too much modelling time.

Re: White Road Boss
The scrolls are white and you'll also notice the mural at the bottom of the sleeper.........
The wind deflector was added to hide the sleeper as John thought it looked ugly.

The third pic down is the original scheme where scrolls where red. Build the second version it was nicer....

Mural! Flat out getting the stripes and colour right Lol! Definitely doing the second one but it looks like its had a couple of tune ups in this colour scheme. The last photo shows a scroll above the front tyre that my original doesn't and it looks like the Road Boss badge is gone from the side of the bonnet. The fine red and blue stripes in the silver and gold main stripes aren't there either. Maybe this last photo from the rear is before the truck was finished? Could you hear my young bloke roll his eyes from there when I asked him about facebook

Re: White Road Boss
After the dramas with the last lot of paint on the Road Boss, I decided to have a practice run first.
The colours have turned out a lot better this time. I used a satin black and added a bit more blue to the silver to calm it down a bit. I left it for a week to dry and had a timid attempt at sanding down the ridges along where the tape had been but it lifted the strip colour. More practice needed but at least the plan seems to work. Sealed the decals using clear nail polish. Have been working on the trailer in the mean time as well.
I still have to put tool boxes on and tail lights etc across the back but it's getting there. Had Mrs Deaf As dye and sew the tarp for me. Also have two of the home made alloy tanks ready to go on. Forgot to take a pic - next time.

Unfortunately, you've seen all I have of the Transtar apart from the floor pan.

Re: White Road Boss
That's a cool tarp on the trailer, one think you need to do is on the bottom edge of it the white cotton needs to be blended in to the colour of the tarp.

Re: White Road Boss
Here we are with take two on the paint job. This one has come up a lot better.
I have to replace the top exhaust brackets on the back of the sleeper. I had them right on the join line between the two colours making masking out a pain in the butt. I have an order in for the decals so hopefully they'll turn up soon. Not sure about sanding it back, didn't go too well with the practice one - probably need more practice! How long after painting before sanding? I see Zenrat asked a similar question somewhere else so I'll try and find it. It's at least starting to look like the real Road Boss now.

Re: White Road Boss
Things have been moving along slowly here but this is where it is at the moment.
I'm pretty happy with it all so even though I've made a few comprises along the way. The pinstripe should probably be more of an orange colour but I couldn't find one that was right. The ones I had last their colour on the black background so I went with the yellow. The red ones I've used on the gold stripe were too dark on the black and there was waaaay too much pinstripe to underlay it with another colour first. The font style for Desperado isn't 100% but it's close. Waiting on a few more small ones and then it can be clear coated. The Road Boss decals for the side if the bonnet are going to need fiddling with too.
The fuel tanks are home made, sanded with wet and dry and polished. The deck plate is KFS photo etch stuff. Had I known it was there when I started I wouldn't have done as much plumbing on the truck as most of it is covered now

Re: White Road Boss
The last of the decals turned up yesterday and are on the truck. Just waiting for either the weather to warm up a bit so I can put the clear coat on it out in the shed or for Mrs Deaf As to be away from the house for long enough to allow me to bring my gear into the house and do it inside. So far the only day she's been out was the day I was in Bathurst All the bits to be done in Alclad are in the black undercoat ready to go, interior is done - paint is the hold up. Outside here at 10am it feels like minus 1.6 degrees and just wet enough not to be able to go to work so I'm doing my best to avoid doing ALL the domestics. Scorching her favourite blouse has got me out of the ironing

Re: White Road Boss
Gave this a second coat of clear today (very lightly) and it seemed to go ok. It still hasn't hidden the decal carrier very well. I'm using clear nail polish, maybe this isn't right? Have started to add the detail stuff like colour on the air con, BMF on the quarter windows and centre post in the windscreen.
Have started on the interior. I used grooved plastic sheet to represent the lining inside the cab.
The internal tub is ready to slip in, just have to add the CB radio. Not sure if I should put in on top of the dash or roof mount it. Either way, I'll leave the side windows out for a better view inside. I also think that the dash is the wrong one but it's too late now.
Got the lights on the back of the trailer. Not sure if it needs the red and yellow reflective plates on a truck from this era?
Other bits like the clearance lights, mirrors, grill etc are being done in Alclad. Once the bonnet is on I'll be able to do more on the bulbar as I can check it against the bonnet in the right position so I don't put the cross bars in front of headlights etc.
