16th Super Model Car Sunday 13th July 2014

Hi everyone,

Just getting in early to let you know about our show.  We've achieved every goal we ever set EXCEPT getting a crowd of Eastern States modelllers to cross the paddock and show us what you've got.  Last year we had a grand total of 1, 123 model cars trucks and bikes displayed inside and outside the West Coast Street Rod Clubrooms. We had a record number of rookies last year with a build quality that left us breathless!

Cacklefest - The Long and Short of it!
This is an idea I’ve had for a while and it may not be for everyone but it’s for all the drag racers amongst us.  We want you to bring along all your 1/24 or 1/25th scale Top Fuel dragsters.  Front or rear engine, it doesn’t matter because we are going to arrange them chronologically on a six metre dragstrip diorama so that we can see how the length of these ultimate race machines has increased over the last sixty or so years.  I’m promising myself that I am going to build Dick Kraft’s Bug, which is generally regarded as the very first rail dragster and will be the starting point of our display.  Dragsters of all lengths have been available as kits over the decades and of course there’s nothing to stop you scratch-building one – the last ten years or so have been a bit light on for contemporary rails so there’s a challenge for you!

Engines.
Yep, just what it says.  Instead of building a model with an engine in it, build the engine as the model!  Absolutely everyone can participate in this one because it doesn’t matter whether you are into cars, trucks or bikes, they all have engines.  Scale doesn’t matter either – anything from 1/43 to 1/6 will fill the bill.  This is a great opportunity to show off your detailing skills.  Make sure you display it on an appropriate engine stand to complete the effect.

Starting with V!
Yep, Viper, Volkswagen, Vauxhall, Valiant, Volvo, Virago, Vincent, Vespa, Velocette, Victoria,  Vega, Vette (yeah, that’s cheating I know) I’m sure there’s more.  Need more – just Google it! Any scale, any style, as long as it starts with V!

Flight of the Mustangs
Some Mustangs might have flown in the sky but the ones we’re talking about are the wheeled variety that will be celebrating their fiftieth anniversary this year – a pretty good excuse for a party, don’t you think?  Of course Dave McKay is bound to be leading the charge but I know plenty of you have your only little herd of horsies so bring them along and we will put them in a corral all of their own! Our five metre long street scene diorama will be waiting for a 1/25scale Mustang Nationals to populate it.

Start looking now for cheap flights!  The show is only twenty minutes from the airport and we can organise a shuttle and accomodation so it will be a cheap weekend.  Its a full weekend with Saturday open for set-up and socialising (strictly entrants only) plus the legendary Give 'N' Take box, a great goodie bag, and a free choice from the Wall of Kits after the presentation.  Come and join in Australia's biggest model car party - you know you've been talking about it - make this year THE year!  PM me for entry forms and details.

I had a great day thanks to Alan, I caught up with some old friends and met some new ones I've been given two new kits and one that's been opened and just the motor built so as soon as I've finished this latest matchstick picture I'm going to get into it I've also had some great ideas for a diaorama and when I get to that stage I will be after any old cars or bodies if you want them back that will be ok but they will be getting painted but don't need them yet just working on lots of ideas

Hi guys, I haven't tried this hosting method of posting pictures before and my work schedule ahs kept me away until now. Hopefully over the next week or so !will get some photos posted of our show.

AS far as the details go, we had 73 entrants display 862 model cars, trucks and bikes to 700 spectators. Despite being on the moddle weekend of winter, we had clear blue skies and 21 degrees of sunshine so the rods and customs turned up in droves. A top day for everyone - ya shoulda been there!

The hot rod table was chockers! MAny of these belong to Pommy Roy who is building a full sized Pommy Anglia rod in his shed.

Lilu brought her son along last year and decided to enter this, her first ever car model, this year!  The paint on this Bad Medicine was to die for!

THis was Mark Bird's second year at our show. This display of Volkswagens for our "Cars beginning with V" theme consisted of plastic, resin and incredibly clever cut and shuts of resin and plastic combined. When it comes to replica showroom stock, Mark is one of the best anywhere!

How good was the weather? Remember, July 13 was the middel weekend of winter. See why you should come to this show next year?

This is the main driveway where folk could enjoy a hot dog, coffee, hearty soup or look at the full sized cars or R/C trucks on display.

For the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, the members of Perth and Districts Model Club set up their modular diorama for a Mustang street scene. This is my motel diorama with a few of the fifty or so Mustangs on display.

Without doubt the star of the show was Dave McKay's amazing Mustang showroom and workshop diorama. Dave has been planning this for nearly 25 years and after hearing of the Mustang theme at last years show, he started working on it the very next day. 363 days of effort was rewarded with the big double - People's Choice and Modeller's Choice. Dave was a very popular and deserving winner.

This is Jason Hunter's Route 66 diorama

Tony Stokes drove 6 hours from Kalgoorlie to display his awesome Turn One diorama for his massive sprintcar collection.

Just part of the six metre long dragstrip form Perth and District's Model Club that was the host to our 1/25th scale Cacklefest.

At the other end of the 1/4 mile were some more contemporary rails.

Francis Burgoyne drove two hours from Brunswick to display some beautifully understated dioramas like this farm scene with Monogram's 40 Ford pickup.

This is my AMT 36 Ford coupe (no, really!) I spent just over thirty years pushing this thing around my model bench, in three different houses (including one in Canada) and at least four paintjobs before all the elements spoke to me and I got it finished up last year.
