Oil based wash/filter.
Carrying on from this thread: https://ozautobuilders.forumotion.com/t7629-salt-technique#98188
I applied a oil based wash to my bonnet, this is done using artist grade oil paint mixed with an odourless solvent intended for oil paint:
Apply the mix liberally, a little oil paint goes a long way, I mixed up a batch in a little pot for future use. basically add enough solvent to turn the paste into a liquid of mil like consistency:
At this point you wanna let it dry for 20-30 mins or as long as it takes to eat a pizza and watch an ep or two of the Soprano's, then when its dry remove as much of it as possible using cotton buds:
End product, you can do this as many times as you like building up the scum and adding depth:

Re: Oil based wash/filter.
I use an acrylic wash. To prevent the paint reacting I seal it with satin clear.
