Mario's Dan Hanna Auto Wash Lola
As you can see this was a right mess, and this is after i got rid of the worst paint job i think i have seen.....(it was mine )
I think i was about 15 when this was started and i was not happy with the white that had been sprayed. So this is how it looked after a caustic soda bath. I was originally going to do it as the Amoco 1988 car but decided to go with the Dan Hanna car wash version from 87.
After a good clean i then sprayed with Tamiya primer which made the whole thing look nice and neat again.
And this is how it is now with the Tamiya Italian red TS8 followed by decals done by Michael from Indycals.
With the holidays still going for me I have been able to turn my attention to another unfinished model. This one got shelved due to my 2K hardener had gone off and I was finding things stayed sticky for quite awhile. So after having about 3 months curing time I have been able to get back to this and it is now almost finished.

Re: Mario's Dan Hanna Auto Wash Lola
Thanks gents...a little history on the significance of this car at the 1987 Indy 500 which you may or may not know.
Mario led for 170 laps of the first 177. He had a lap lead and had he not broken down he would have lead 193 of 200, for the third most dominating win ever... but the two that exceeded that (Vuky with 195 in 1953 and Billy Arnold with 198 in 1930), didn't have to bunch up the field under yellow. Mario was actually taking it easy and had dialed the power back near the end, , and in an ironic twist of fate, it was the dialing back of the power that caused his failure.

Looks fantastic
Almost like a Jet fighter in that last picture.
What products did you use to strip the old paint?

Re: Mario's Dan Hanna Auto Wash Lola
I feel a little embarrassed that I am posting some work being done on this build…..seeing the original post dates back to January 2013...or I could say WOW time flies doesn't it….hahaha
So I have pulled this one of out of the box and started to get it wrapped up, I am not going to make any predictions on when as I usually get bitten. So as you can see from the pictures the front suspension arms are now back on, the front and rear wings are in place so all I need to do now is add the suspension braces, mirrors and wheels, give it a good polish to remove finger prints and just the usual grim and dust these collect and I think I’m good….stay tuned.
