1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS
G'day guys, this is the '68 El Camino from AMT. The kit itself for the most part was excellent with great fit, low flash and lots of details. The chassis comes as a separate piece allowing full detail to be applied to the fuel tank, bed and interior floors without having to mask. The 396 engine was of excellent quality with full a/c plumbing which really looks great. The rims and tires are also well molded with lots of details.
The only decals provided were 3 sets of license plates. I was hoping for a 396 decal to set on the air cleaner, but the kit didn't come with one.
The issues I had with the kit was when it came time to lower the body over the chassis. The accessory belts are far too wide for the front fenders. After much fighting with the thing the only way I could make it work was to cut off the alternator and power steering pumps. Even then the belt for the a/c compressor snapped and had to be repaired.
The front spindles are too long. As a consequence the front wheels/tires sit too far out, almost touching the wheel arches. They had to be trimmed to match the back end. You could get away with leaving them alone, but it looked weird with the back wheels tucked in so much more under the arches then the front.
Other than that there really wasn't any more issues. Here are some pics, hope you like.
