1968 Camaro race car
Woooohooooo. After 25 years in the planning and a couple of months building, here is the Camaro that Norm Beechey drove in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1968 at Warwick Farm. It DNFed that race and only raced a couple of more times before being replaced by the HK Monaro.
![1968 Camaro race car Camarocatalina](https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img534/1849/camarocatalina.jpg)
I ended up using parts from 7 different Camaro kits to bring it all together. The stripes are from Keith Marks and the other decals are from RooDecal, Speedline, Colorado and Tamiya. Paint is Tamiya and Alclad for the chrome and alloy.
Here 'tis

Nobody is sure what happened to the car after Beechey sold it. I have read conflicting reports that it was converted to RHD or that it was left as LHD and that it went to either WA or NZ. One thing for sure is that the model takes pride of place in my collection and sits nicely next to the other cars of its time.
Thanks for looking and to those who followed the WIP thanks for your kind comments as it gave me a huge boost to continue it when things were getting frustrating. What's next? Not sure yet.

Re: 1968 Camaro race car
I'm gobsmacked! I only saw that '68 Camaro once at Beechey's workshop in Brunswick, and had completly forgotten about it. Someone made a 1:64 scale diecast model of it not long ago - can't recall the brand.
Fabulous replica you've made. How are you going to top this?

Thats an gorgeous replica, the detailing is so accurate and looks in scale. The underbody paint detail sets it off.

Thanks Tezza, I think it was made by Johnny Lightning as a diecast expo special edition or something like that.

Cheers slowly. The grille is MCG photoetch. It was a bitch to work with as it is so very thin and fragile that I damaged 2 of them in the process of the build.

Re: 1968 Camaro race car
Wonderful stuff Shawn. Beautiful finish and the detail is awesome. That may well be the best first generation Camaro I have ever seen in 1/25 scale.
How'd you do the trunk strap?

Thanks everybody for your kind words about my little Camaro. It's really blown me away how much you all like it.
Bryce, I made the trunk strap from 2 strips of tape that I painted brown and they are fed through a small rectangular part of photo etch that I found in my PE spares box.
Here is my muscle car class of 67/68. Only 4 so far but I won't stop there.

How about a 60's style photo shoot?

I'm getting closer to deciding on my next project but one thing I know is that it won't be as detailed.
Watch this space
Thanks again guys
