V12 Daytona
Ok, this one has been in hiding for nearly a year. I started this project last year with big ambitions, but time hasn't been my friend for a while now and I drifted off the road a bit. This will be a long term project so I'm not making any rash promises of this being finished 'soon'.
The run down;
Kit - the very crappy MPC '69 Daytona, re-pop.
Engine - AMT Parts Pack Allison V12
Wheels - Aoshima 19" SSR's (modified)
The theme will be 'Aircraft', due to the 1710ci Allison V12 aero engine, the wing and aerodynamic nose I thought that made for a good theme.
I'm still churning this around in my head but I'm thinking matt or satin black with contrasting sheen paintouts and maybe Lo-Vis military markings.
The windows in the roof are kind of a homage to B-17's and the rear radiator intakes are like APU intakes seen on lots of planes.
Well I've given away most of the ideas on this now so here's some pics of where it is now and how it got there;
The kit.
The big hole I cut to get the Allison in ...
The rear 'APU' style intakes ...
The modified wheels, made the rims on the lathe and used the Aoshima centers, and the tyres are resin casts of the Aoshimas sectioned to make wides ...
The 1710 Allison ...
The nose with tinted glass lenses and mesh grille ...
The tinted roof windows ...
Firewall work, the tubes will be cut in half to form a cutout for the exhaust ...
Boxing in the trans tunnel/firewall ...
Windscreen and cowling mods ...
The Concept!
Ok stay tuned for a long slow build, lots things to go yet

Re: V12 Daytona
Now that's one very wild one in the making, You need to put a truck diff under it to handle the power out put of the engine.

Re: V12 Daytona
Righto, not much to report but I've made a little headway on the dash and firewall,
also down the back I've got the tubs in, tried to make fins for the diff and adjusted the rear air intakes,

"TJ.......you absolutely AMAZE me..!!!
That dash just looks so realistic, do the needles move ?"
You like my highly refined pencil skills eh? ... Just spit-balling ideas on where all the gauges might go
They'll be aircraft type instruments, yes all custom made, no not working
"I'm comfy mate and watching...

As you can see mate the rear end needs lots of thought yet, somehow I need to fit suspension under there somewhere, not sure what to use, airbag, trailing arm, 4-link? Not a lot of room with that stonking big diff

Re: V12 Daytona
SO, Just how many gauges do you think you need????? You missed a spot over to the left mate...
I reckon you should make a 4 link rear end for it, something that will look good ,
be functional and still go round corners..
