So after watching DeeCee  descend into madness, with his crazy Hot Wheels Car, I thought I might join him in building something wild and crazy.

This is what I'm starting with. A pack of styrene sheet and a reclaimed Ford Cobra chassis. This one might actually drive me crazy LOL..

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0116_zpsrcy8buxi

Thinking I might try to build my very own 60's style Show Rod, these things where pretty crazy and weird so I could be heaps of fun try to make a body totally from scratch. Or I could through it in the scrap heap. Here's what I'm using for inspiration.

Glad my craziness can rub off and inspire some off beat building mate.
Those Inspirational pics are some sweet looking rods too, with that modern style chassis, it could be a real beast..

Best i settle in for the show.

I usually build at night after work until about 9.30 or until I get over it, I don't watch the rubbish on TV, I would rather be creative and I work fast when I get the build sorted in my head, so smash things out pretty fast.  Do a bit on weekends if the weather outside is average.

I'm single at the moment and don't have kids so that helps. Lol.

I got stuck into this one last night for a few hours after I come up with a plan, got a lot more done than I thought so going to share what I have so far, also did a couple hours this arvo too.

Worked out the profile of the body, I liked the style of the blue one so that was my starting point. after I cut it out it looked a lot like my moto helmet..lol.

Sorry about the crappy photo's there done with my older iPhone.
Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1702_zps2iksedhi

Then cut out a floor and a middle wall that will be behind the seats, this acts as a brace to hold it all together and get the shape into the side walls where the body line is. Also cut a bit of a door opening to get a bit more detail into the body.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1703_zpsmbk5vely

Then the roof and front panel was cut and glued on. Yes there is glue and pen everywhere, but that will be sanded off eventually.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1707_zpsbj6fembk

Next up was to cut out the bracing wall to start to fit it onto the Cobra Chassis.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1708_zpsdthumcub

I didn't like how high it sat on the chassis so I built a higher floor to get the body to sit over the chassis and closer to the ground.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1712_zps0d1bm4xt

Then came the transmission tunnel, I made this a bit boxy so it will be like a centre console for the interior. also made it a snug fit to give me more room inside the cab.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMG_1714_zpssx48dqqc

I glued the console in and cut out the floor for the trans and driveshaft, also finished the top of the firewall. Fits perfect with an engine in.

Next job is to build the back of the cab and start on the custom seats, got some cool ideas for those so hope they work out.

Thanks guys, it is coming along nicely. got a little bit done over the weekend, woke up Saturday morning with some BS cold or flu so spent most of the weekend sleeping or watching the Olympics, but still sat at my table for some building.

I made a seat, used half round styrene and styrene sheet for the frame, was a bit of dicking around getting it to fit nice, but it worked out in the end, it will be flocked for the velour look. I also worked on the inside of the back of the cab, cut the wall I had in there down so it opened everything up to make it lighter in there.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0121_zpsqpnbbeda

Then made up the back of the cab, I liked to look of the back of the blue show rod in the photo so I made my own version of it, not too different but will look cool when its finished. Also started putting on the putty to round everything up and get the boxy look out of the shell.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0123_zpshmi8u5em

Some more putty, I put heaps on to give me more to work with, now I have to sand for a few hours then get the primer out, also want to work out a platform in the back to hide to rear suspension.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0124_zpsq6f0d3bf

Now its getting close to the paint stage I have to work out colours and what designs to use. should be fun.

Here you go mate..lol..

So the progress goes on, finished up work the other day so got a lot of spare time now, going to be a life of Hobby's, bike riding, surfing and pretty much Leisure until I can hook up more work BUT I stocked up my kit stash in the last few months, so not going to run out of kits to build Very Happy

So today, I got back into the interior work and built a rear floor over the suspension, looks much better in there now, also snaped off the centre of the window so will have to fix that, but at least I have somewhere to stick my fingers in to work in there. The seat sits further back to close the gap.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0127_zpsieqegmqb

I finished boxing in the floor pan to sit flush with the chassis, looks way neater now.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0129_zpsbmmwk2mg

Next up I installed a steering column and found this kick ass chain steering wheel in an Impala lowrider kit.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0125_zpsyrc2exn9

It needed a new engine as the original Cobra one was looking pretty average and a show rod needs a perfect engine, I had a hunt through my pile of kit parts I bought off here and found a 428 Cobra Jet and I was stoked to find out that Revell got lazy and used the same mould as the Cobra's 427 for the block and gearbox, the engine fitted straight in not 1 mod needed, but it does need a blower so had to shave off the front of the engine to swop it for the one that goes with the blower set up.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0131_zpsflowi9d6

Then I had a Blower set up in my parts box  from a Revell 427 engine parts pack, I bought a few boxes of these Engine kits a few years ago.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0135_zpsqll1fwnq

The set up fitted perfect on the 428 block and looks mean as hell sitting in the ROD.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0132_zpsqjzjcpbq

The 428 had a radiator with it and it was also perfect for what I wanted to do, tomorrow I'm going to make a shroud for the radiator, something similar to the show rods in the photo's.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0134_zpspxw2eq6v

That it for this time, I have chosen a colour so I can start to prep everything for the paint stage now after the final constructing is finished, going with a 60's Show Rod theme colour and maybe some simple graphics. Very Happy

Been slaving away at the show rod and got a stack done, looking for it to be finished this weekend if all goes well.

I got the body in primer, and it looks pretty good considering it started as a sheet of styrene.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0140_zpsjhdf7ubx

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0141_zpswfonum1e

I got a radiator built also, kinda in a T Bucket shape but a lot thicker.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0142_zpsq4z1hofl

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0143_zps94fbgmq0

I needed to work out a windscreen so I used some slimmed down angle styrene and some clear sheet, pretty basic screen but fits perfect and will look sweet once its foiled and in.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0149_zps4eke4tvb

Wasn't 100% happy with the seat so changed it a bit with some bigger half round to give it more shape, looks sweet now.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0151_zpslzri2uyo

Then finished it up with some flocking.
Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0162_zpstcrs6add

The time has come to start painting and I started with the engine, used Alcad chrome for the block and gearbox and Alcad Pale Gold for the air scoop.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0144_zpsrwyqytqt

Then mixed up the colour I liked for the chassis, its based on Surf Green off a 57 chevy. Also got the chrome out for the suspension, I think I may have finally worked out how to use Alcad chrome  Smile

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0138_zpsotspiaf8

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0139_zps1nhwvgnh

This is how many wheels and tyres I tried to get to the ones on it, pretty happy, something like F1 tyres would have been perfect but I don't do F1 cars.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0147_zpsfnayurfz

Finally it was time to start on the body, I started with the Surf Green as the base colour.

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0152_zps9f521vt9

Then started the hour of masking..

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0153_zpsdzr4uw8f

I went for a darker green fade with a black pin stripe, tomorrow will be the clear coat  Smile

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0161_zpswo2zeq0j

Looking pretty sweet on the chassis..

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0158_zpslsp1bxmf

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0160_zpsad82gbgr

Then I started into the fiddly stuff with the engine detailing with wiring etc. also got some gold on the radiator. Looking pretty mean with that engine finished up.  Very Happy

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0164_zpsocb3drwm

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0167_zpsbva61ct5

Im not sure what to call it yet. IMGP0166_zpsyxpaagrw

So that's it for now, next for me is to clear coat the body so I can detail the interior, find some sort of exhaust pipes or make some. then I'm sure there will a few more hours of little things I always forget about.

Thinks for watching so far, I has been a hell fun project.
