72 Chevelle
i Bought a Jaymar fiberglass resin body of a HK Monaro many years ago with the intention of converting it into a HG but its taken me so long to get around to it that a HG is now available and its much better quality so i decided that instead of building another HK i would use this old body to build a South African Chevelle, after doing a bit of research i settled on a 72 model and built it as close as i could to the pics i found, these were manufactured in Australia by GMH for export to South Africa where they were assembled and sold as Chevs, they appear to be based on the HG Monaro but have a different grille and front mudgaurds, they also have a couple of reflectors added under the rear bumper to comply with South African regulations. the body was so thin you could see through it in some places so i poured resin inside to strengthen it, this caused the thin parts to bubble and warp, after much work its not too bad now, the interior came from The Parts Box and fitted right in, the grille was scratchbuilt using parts from a Chev Malibu for the headlights, some styrene and castings of a radiator to get the grille bars, the wheels came from my spares box and its a curbside cos i rekon if i tried cutting open the bonnet the body would have fallen apart!
