It is indeed a Rootes type supercharger, so called because they were originally designed by the Rootes Group for Commer Truck engines (Rootes Group was a British company that made Hilman & Humber cars as well as Commer Trucks and was later taken over by the US Chrysler Corporation.) The same type of supercharger was copied by General Motors and used on their GMC/Detroit Diesel's, this is the blower that is very common on hot rods. Although nowadays they are made by many manufacturers for the automotive performance & drag racing markets.
The smaller blowers with rounded cases and fine fins are Italmechanica superchargers and are also known as SCoTT superchargers (I'm not sure if I have the capitals right) and were often used by hot rodders in the early days before the availability of GMC blowers in the US.
The only scale SCoTT or Italmechanica blower I've seen is made by Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland and it's a beautiful piece.

Yes Mate.............Black!
...........thanks for answering KC's Q Carps
Here's an update, today I got some clear on the body - leather paint on the interior and a body colored Dash and Cage plus I kicked the engine into gear by whipping up some pulleys!!
I will run twin standard belts for the blower etc, and a single belt to the alternator......... I mean Generator!!! seeing as Carps says Flatheads should never run alternators
.....I'm thinking the Blower pulley is a bit to big diameter wise....but it'll do
......now why is it that of late, everytime I'm halfway through a project I get inspired to start another out of the blue??.....here's what I got mocked up yesterday arvo after seeing some car art on the www.
I picked this up as an already built original issue a few years back, it was box stock with I reckon a whole tube of glue sticking everything together , now she's chopped and channeled and looking like a fun build!

That is looking so cool Paul. Love that old Ford body style and the way you're modifying the car.

Re: "Strawberries&Cream" Forty Coupe
'40 looks good Paul.
S.C.o.T. IIRC
Superchargers of Turin.
The blower in the AMT old mould '57 Chev (with the twin sidedraft webers) is meant to be an S.C.o.T.
According to Wiki "Roots-Type" refers to brothers Philander and Francis Marion Roots of Connersville, Indiana, who in 1860 patented the design for an air mover, for use in blast furnaces and other industrial applications.
This surprised me as I thought, as Carps did, that it referred to the Rootes Group.

It does sound "sus" doesn't it, but check it out on this link - it's real. (Philander and Francis Roots, brothers).

Re: "Strawberries&Cream" Forty Coupe
I don't usually believe everything in Wiki, but that actually makes more sense than the Roote's group deal. However, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Rootes group had some linke to the brothers. Something worth a little more research maybe.zenrat wrote:According to Wiki "Roots-Type" refers to brothers Philander and Francis Marion Roots of Connersville, Indiana, who in 1860 patented the design for an air mover, for use in blast furnaces and other industrial applications.
