Aston Martin DBR1
Hi all I haven't posted on here in a very long while and decided to start a build blog . I'm still building weird model cars , well weird to most of you guys!
I'm still plugging away with the Airfix Blower Bentley which is still a long way off completion! I've decided to take a break from the bentley and build one of my own kits for a bit of sanity. This kit is a Resin multi media kit from a French company called Profil24, the model is made to 1/24th scale and has a ton of very nicely made parts in both white metal ,Photo etch and resin.
The car I will attempt to build will be the car which Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham partnered in Nuburgring road race 1959. The car will need slight modification from the kit as it has a few differences which I'll out line further into the build.
Sean
Heres the box!
To date I've made the wheels ,Profil24 supply the spokes in very delicate photo etch the Outer rim is turned Aluminium with a white metal inner hub and rim .
The whole assembly is pressed together with a small amount of super glue, I've drilled out the outer rims on my lathe to accept valve stems .
Most of the kit supplied parts
Nice photo etch fret

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Made a start on the body and interior tonight .
The body is very nicely cast in resin with minimal air bubbles to fill. The bonnet, boot and doors are all cast separately. Chassis requires alot of pre fitting and clean up as can be expected with a short production run multimedia kit like this.

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Hey Sean I notice you've chosen an easy kit to start with!
This is one of my favourite Aston Martin cars so I'll be watching your progress like a hawk. I have seen Profil24 models overseas but their cost was a bit rich for my humble tastes.

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Fred the kit was $175.00 included postage from my mate Ed at www.islandcollectibles.net/ This kit was cheap compared to the 1/20th scale Model Factory Hiro Ferrari 801 that kit set me back $300.00 !
These kits are nothing like putting together your usual Injection molded plasic kits and take a lot of dedication and perhaps passion for the subject.... as does this one its was driven by the man himself Jack Brabham!

Sure is the Airfix Bentley although not much of it is Airfix anymore....it's been a labour of love for the past 2 years now
Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Wow I'll be watching this one. I love those wheels too. Keep us informed on the progress of this one.

Sweet build. Looks a very similar build to my MFH Ferrari that I've yet to build, but hope to start soon.
Will be watching your techniques in this for sure.

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Thanks Kane which MFH Ferrari kit do you have ? I've already put together the D50 along time back now, they have their faults and aren't easy to put together but are very rewarding when finished.Kane wrote:Sweet build. I got one of these given to me...the body is painted metallic green. Some bits and pieces are assembled. At this stage just had a look through it...have you had any posts on your Bentley project. What have you done to that one???

Only advise I can give is pull it down and start again ! Teres just so much you can do with these kits as they lack so much missing detail and look bloody impressive when done .
I've just put some photos of the project up here on another thread .
Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Thanks for the info mate.
I was looking at an all white metal Jag on Evil-Bay for $150 and wondered how one of these compared.

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
I have the Ferrari GTO 1960 Lemans winner. I was going to build it as a road version after seeing the real one at the Ferrari workshop near where I was working. They let me get some good detail photos of it.modelmaker wrote:Thanks Kane which MFH Ferrari kit do you have ? I want to perfect my body painting before I start it, don't want to ruin it. Cost too much.

Re: Aston Martin DBR1
Sorry fellas this build is on hold for the time being as I have another project just came in. I'm going to be building a 1/24th scale Twin cam Cosworth Powered Mk1 Ford Escort Sports Sedan from the revell Mk2 Rally car . I'll be using an Aftermarket Resin Mk1 body from a company called Passion for racers.
This build will be Blogged on this site .
