Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Hi all, It has been some time since I have been here and great to see all the new projects going on too.
Well I have a new project, turning a 1931 Phantom II into a Rat Rod but powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin.
I don't know how this will turn out but only time will tell. More pics soon....

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
It should be good Wozza. I've just about finished the same combination / conversion myself, (Although not a rat rod) and the engine fits in fine.
Can't wait to see what yours looks like.

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Thanks for looking guys.
Hi Antwon, I have just done some sizing up and I'm going to have to lose the supercharger off the back of it to get it in, and I need to mount the gearbox to were it was placed, did you do the same?
" />
" />
Im thinking mounting some old blowers on top but the intake is at the back of the manifold and there is some nice detail in the valley too. I'm going to have to think on this a bit, maybe turbos but I do like the idea running a pulley off the front were the propeller mounts to.

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Hi Wozza
Not sure if your engine came from a car or aircraft kit but I did a rod with the AMT Alison which had a drive shaft take off. Here's a picture of what it looks like. You might find something in your parts box to copy it. Output shaft is on the bottom. Carol Shelby used a sledge hammer to lengthen the engine bay in the prototype Tiger.... At least with the tall Roller grill you can hide the superchargers if you keep them

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Hi Nota, Thanks for the photo's, like the truck...
I have worked with the AMT Alison in a Fury Road style vehicle, that's what has inspired to do this one.
The engine came from an 1/24 Airfix Mosquito and the super chargers are mounted on the back of the engine with a small gearbox to drive it, I have a big auto resin nock-off from a drag truck I'm thinking of mounting on the back. The C6 auto looked too small and I would  imagine a Merlin would destroy it too, oh crap just realised I'm going to have to put a truck diff in it too and beefer springs...

A bigger diff (from an old trashed drag truck) & springs.

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Hey Wozza,
I actually reversed the motor so that what was the drive end was now facing the rear.
I cheated a little and mounted the prop hub up front? again to drive a fan. Then mounted a truck trans behind it..............I'll show you;
Then with the carbys taken off the rear I made a new inlet ontop.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
This has great potential Wozza, looks like a good start I'm following this one for sure.
I'm mid-build with an Allison engined car too and I chopped the prop drive/gear box off and coupled a Lenco to it with an adapter plate.
TWON .... POST IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Hi Antwon, That's is fantastic... The Merlin fits in there better than I thought, and the look of your headers & side steps fits in as well I have no idea how I was going to do that yet. And yes post it up......
And the Alison build too like the work in the chassis I'll keep an eye on that one too. I mounted two super chargers on top of my Alison build as a secondary blower to the primary one on the front which I mounted a truck air cleaner to the stock carburettor from the kit for my kit bash.
" />
Update's photos on the Phantom, remove old springs, and test fit the drive train, I've move the diff back a bit to lengthen the wheel base a bit, I'm thinking that I'll lower the body a bit on the chassis too.

Re: Monogram 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Sorry not much done this week, just the brakes & tail shaft fitting. Just been finding some wheels to go with this and I think I found something on a dicast model that will hopefully work.
pics soon...
Thanks for watching.
