67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
I have been wanting to build 'Eleanor' from the movie Gone in 60 seconds for years but never had the time to fit it in. I was greatly inspired by Bryce's immaculate 32 Ford Coupe from American Graffiti.
Based on AMT's 67 Shelby GT 500, with the use of Evergreen plastic sheets, car bog and fine putty I thought I'd give it a go. the poor old Landcruiser is on the back burner for a little while.
I was going to use the front of the standard 67 Mustang, then I noticed it was a lot shorter.

another great build in the making from shoey! top stuff so far man, yeah good luck on those wheels... there is an episode of RIDES in season 2 about a few blokes producing these from old mustang bodies if you need a bit of reference.

Think i hate you. Nothing personal you just have too much talent. And anyway it's not the ORIGINAL mustang from the ORIGINAL movie. So there.
nice work though

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
Has anyone actually seen the original, OMG, what a big steaming pile, got the DVD cheap, watched it and realised I payed way too much, try following THAT story. Remake was heaps better but flashed through the cars way to fast. Aren't the wheels the same as used on Shelby Cobra's, saw it on cable yesterday for about the 10th time and they still look like Cobra wheels to me. Awesome job as usual Shoey.

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
o.k., yes it was a pretty good chase but the rest, as far as movies go, was hard to follow.

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
Thanks for your comments, Got a bit more done today. still needs to be polished. the rims are off the Revell AC King Cobra. pretty close.
They will do until something better pops up.

Looking really good - have you got the boot hinged? I couldn't make mine work - there's just not enough room in there!

Can't agree Tubby, I think it's a true classic Car movie and you should take into account that it was made in 1974!! Sure it's old and a bit amateurish compared to today's standards but if you are watching it for the story and not for the Car Kandy then maybe you need to watch it again , certainly the best 10bucks I eva spent on a DVD!!

Looking good Shoey, but those wheels are way to small!!
here's a resin set from Germany but I don't think there available anymore.

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
The 2000 remake featured a metallic grey Mustang GT500 with darker metallic grey stripes. Two identical Mustangs (including interiors and engines) were used in the movie with five backups that looked similar on the outside only. The original 1974 movie feaured a yellow Mustang Mach 1 "Eleanor". There are heaps of real replicas around now. Here are some:

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
Those silver cars aren't real GT 500s, no owner would modify an original to look like those cars. I'd suggest thay are regular Mustangs with a retro style fibreglass body kit etc.

Thanks Bryce, Yes the boot is hinged, and a fair bit of swearing to do it. I had to grind some off the glass but lucky it didn't show on the outside.

Re: 67 Shelby GT 500 'ELEANOR'
Got some more done this week. starting with the grille, I used some good ol evergreen plastic rod stuck on a flat base and trimmed to fit.
I made some changes to the wheels, it's still not right but it's better than what it was.
the one on the right is untouched

That's looking real nice, and the larger wheel is great.

Looking good Shoey.
That is such a nice kit - a little extra detailing goes a long way. Watch out for the front track though - too wide.
