1955 Mersedes-Benz 300SL Gull wing
Have you ever wondered why there are some model kits you never see built? Well I had never seen the Mercedes Gullwimg built, so for my clubs (SABA NW) first Community Build Project (CBP) we chose "Foreign or Exotics" as the theme. I ran across the 300SL on eModelCars and bought it.
So far there has not been a single piece of this kit that has not required it to be trimmed and massaged into place. The CBP started on March 1st and runs through May 31st. So, here is my progress on this beast as of today.
The chassis assembled and painted:
The body with all the panels in place, the hinge assembly for the doors is going to need to be totally rebuilt as there is no way possible straight from the box that it will work.
Hosted on Fotki
The one thing I know for sure is that once the build is complete I will Never have to build this kit again.

Sounds like you worked out why there not a popular kit
They are a sweet looking car, and I can't wait to see how yours turns out

Nice project Fletch! I feel your pain though, some of these old kits are almost too much to bear these days...
