Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
I was going through some old Custom Classic Truck Mags A few weeks ago and came across a 56 ford f100. I had an old build that need alot off work to rebuild it ( Thanks to my 3 year old) so I decided to make a model of it. But as always happens, Having Been Inspired By the Dream Truck For about 20 years the rear tray took on the flavour of it.So here goes The cab
Top chopped 4 inches, The Body Sectioned 9 Inches, The front guards redesigned by leveling of the nose' pinching the lower guards, The grill has been filled in around the custom F100 grill ( from my parts box), The bonnet has has had you name it done to it as due to the body work is almost flat. The Chassie has a dropped axle and the rear frame has been Z'ed and rides on custom springs. The tray if you could call it that started life as the rear section of a 1958 Cadillac Elderado kit but has major re working and custom fin's and the rear panel is custom as well every panel on the whole model has been reworked. Am still trying to sort out the rims and tire's at this point in time any ideas are welcome. The dash is all so custom and is going to be tuck and roll straight out of the 50's. ( Am starting to think that I was born in the wrong era or my taste is getting better with age. lol )
The first photo show's a standard cab next to it... Enjoy

Man, that is awesome.
The bed is brilliant.
As for the wheels, body colour or dark steelies with baby moons & trim rings? Or deep dish 5 spokes?

Re: Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
Thanks you all for the comments as for the wheels I was leaning towards mid 50's Chevy Hub caps or chrome steelies (which is on the real Dream Truck) but I like the sound of the steelies and Baby Moons. As far as building out of the box I always start of with the best intensions to use most of the parts but it does not happen that often.
Am having a brake from the exterior body work and am doing the rest of the interior, motor, and Chassis.
Again Thanks for the comments

Re: Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
I have heaps of pictures of it restored. have been planing to build all the version of it from the first article till now but i have not been able to get hold of any of the mags or scans of it. This project started out as a build along the lines of a f100 from Custom classic truck and grew into the tray being inspired by the dream truck as well as the 50's style of car which I love.If any one can help me with scans or the mags articles PLEASE let me know

Fantasic build so far.I too am a big fan of the Dream Truck as it has been an inspiration and motivator of my automotive lifestyle. Mark Gustavson's book is excellent and if you're a dream truck fan a must have. Not to hijack your thread but I'll try and find a copy of something I dod on a rtodding site I frequent.

Re: Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
Sorry that I have not posted anything lately but the communications system was down at work ( the joy of working in a remote place took 4 days to get "sugar run" plane home ) buggered my knee up at work so am back home for a while
Carps I would love to see your build I don't have any problems with you posting your pictures of your build, and thanks to everyone's comments.
I have been doing a bit on it The engine is nearly finished so is the the major work on the inside the tray is just about finished I changed the wheels about 40 times have gone with a modern flame style. I still have not decided on the final colour have been playing around with heaps of mixes that about enough for now will post some pictures tomorrow so you can have a look.

Re: Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
sorry about the quality of the pictures left the camera at work will have to by a new one this week these were taken with my phone not so good on close ups
The door frame are made out of copper wire hammered and filed into shape the right angle corners are soldiered a bit harder to do than in plastic but a lot stronger.
The tray lining done with the hinges in place
the motor in the chassis the carbs are white metal ones I got in Sydney years ago the Air cleaners are from Detail Master
the car in gloss black undercoat I like using gloss as the final under coat because it shows up the faintest blemishes the top coat will be a metallic red will come out a almost burgundy but not quite as dark
Thanks for looking Enjoy

Re: Dream Truck inspired 56 Ford F100
Must say up front I'm not a big fan of wildly chopped and restyled cars but....as far as your model goes, beautiful job, that bed is sweet and the whole thing has come together very nicely. Will look forward to seeing this one finished.
