Buick GNX
First new kit started in 2010.
I'm loosely basing this on the GNX driven by Damien Lewis in the TV show Life - Black (obviously) with a white pearl or silver racing stripe and American Racing Vector type wheels. Grey interior and otherwise stock.
I've started on the body and fit is not good. The nose fits OK but the rear has needed locating lugs. The flares are also being a pain and i've resorted to multi stage gluing - position a flare with 2 clothes pegs holding the bottoms in position, run Tamiya extra thin glue into the first 5mm of the join and leave overnight until definitely set. Then move pegs up and repeat.

Re: Buick GNX
Coming along well Fred. Shame the TV series didn't last long - I liked the way Damian Lewis played the detective role. He was also great in "Band of Brothers".
That Buick was tricked up for the show wasn't it - added badges and stuff like that? Should look nice when finished.

Re: Buick GNX
Thanks guys.
I was enjoying the show Tezza. So obviously it would get the axe.
I'm not going for an exact replica of the show car. Just being inspired by it. I think it was pretty near stock apart from the stripe, exhaust (although they could well have dubbed it) and the cop equipment like red/blue flashers behind the grille.

Re: Buick GNX
Got it cleared (good thing about floor polish - you can put it on when it's cold & damp and still get a shine).
Got the interior finished (stockish colours and i'm saying the red overspray is from a helpfull citizen who happened to have a blood nose OK? )
And washed the wheels
I've also nearly finished the engine and made a start on the chassis.

Re: Buick GNX
Thanks Bryce. I must remember to never let you see it in the flesh
It's just enamel straight from the (rattle) can. I had to do the black on the bonnet twice as I polished straight through to the white underneath.
I love glossy black cars but I hate spraying it.

Thanks Boothy.
I have a number of black builds I want to do but i've put off starting them because i'm scared to try painting them. Stupid eh?
Still, with the 1/25 1966 Batmobile on the way i'd better get some practice in.

Re: Buick GNX
Hey,Fred. Nice looking job you're doing. What kind of clear is that? Is it brushed on,or dipped? Biggest question; can the clear be washed in warm soapy water without coming off? There's a huge dust problem here and I can't always afford cases for my cars. Therefore, they get a very careful bath and air dry,now and then. I use a fat, soft make-up brush if any actual washing is needed. If I could use that stuff it'd sure save some money. Thanks in advance,Bud. Best to you,Bill

Re: Buick GNX
Hmmm yes. The lest said about the red fleck the better...
Bill, it's One Go floor polish. In the US they call it Future. I brushed it on with a big soft brush, let it flow out and then mopped off the excess from the bottom edges with a bit of kitchen towel.
I have dipped bodies in it and it can also be airbrushed but I haven't tried that.
Once dry it should be impervioous to washing but I haven't tried that either. They say to use ammonia based window cleaner (Windex for example) to remove it and that there will be no paint damage if you do this.
It's an acrylic so can react with acrylic paints like the brush on Tamiya ones.
Look here for the full SP http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Re: Buick GNX
No worries Yenko.
Unfortunately while brushing out the 3rd & final coat of One-Go I dropped the body chipping it and getting dust & fingerprints in the clear. Lucky windex removes One-Go...
