58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m doing a lot of painting at the moment squirreling away bodies for winter.
This one came out of the box after seeing a photo of Lee Pratt’s car (I think it was also the inspiration for DSF's 58 Chevy too). I didn’t have any purple candy, so I used red instead and I didn’t have any lace so I did a scallop design. This colour is never going to come across in photos, but it positively glows. I’m pretty stoked with how it has come out and I can see myself trying this on a few more cars in the near future.

Thanks guys.
Boothy - yes I have had this kit for a few years. Haven't seen it in the shops, but plenty floating around at swap meets.

I agree !
Boothy, Revell released a new tool 58 a couple of years ago, same box art as the 59 and 60 lowriders so presumeably can be built stock or lowered the same as them. They're both very nice kits,I dont have the 58 though.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
This one is back on the bench and next in line for completion. Just been working on wheels and ride height this week. It’s an easy kit to lower. Nice for a change!

Looking great so far the roof scallops are cool.
Is this an AMT or Revell? I think the Revell does not have the opening doors.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Thanks for the nice words guys.
It's the AMT kit. Probably one of my favourite kits of all time. Goes together pretty good and loads of great parts in it. I could build it over and over again I reckon.

I made the wheels Tony - The inserts are from the '57 T-bird. The deep dish is created by adding a sleeve I made by filing the back off the custom wheels from the '70 Super Bee kit. It worked better than I expected. Shoey gave me the idea and now I am looking at all my old wheels in a much different light. Rim too small? No probs...just add a bigger one...

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Thanks Tony. Where do you get spares to work with in 1/16 scale?
I have a 1/12 scale Camaro and would like to put cool wheels on it, but I certainly couldn't afford to buy big scale kits just to do some kit bashing.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Bryce, I have a good collection of 1/16th scale mate and I have a couple of good friend's in the states that can supply me part's as well.
Like you I am the same with the 1/12th 57 Chev, I love the crager's with it but I wan't more dish on the rear's and the carl casper trike's rears are perfect.
Just a question have you still got the weld wheels and the chev ralley's that come with the camaro mate.
Regards Tony.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Been really busy this week, so not much progress to report...
Managed to finish up the engine for this one today. It’s the kit 348 tri-power with plug wires, fuel lines and some chrome valve covers, generator and air cleaners from my spares box.
That's it from me for a week or so - I’m off to Bali for a mate’s wedding!
