Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
There's a lot of chrome on these things...taking me forever to foil the thing. Almost finished the interior:
Now onto the exterior!

WOW ! That's beautiful work. You have some steady hands and excellent eyes,Bud. What is that red color? How'd you do the seat inserts? That's realism personified,Man. The dash is killer too. Looking forward to more. Good luck,Bill

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Thanks for the nice words guys!
Thanks Bill. The red is actually Tamiya clear red over a base of flat aluminium. I did the seat inserts with strips of low tack masking tape, a sharp blade and lots of time! I sprayed the black first, then masked those strips and painted the whole seat silver, then masked the silver strips on the inserts and painted the whole seat clear red, then gave the inserts a dry brush with some Humbrol Number 56. for that 'metallic cloth' look. Then dull cote over the whole she-bang.
It's a lot of work, but I really enjoy doing interiors - particularly paint detailing the interesting and challenging ones that are in the fifties cars. I will be working on a '57 Fairlane next so I can post up some in-progress shots on the interior if you like.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
I have had all sorts of trouble getting the interior into the body and the passenger door trim refuses to line up with the trim on the body, despite A LOT of cutting. This one is fighting me all the way, but it’s getting pretty close now…

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
Looking good Bryce and despite the problems you mention, this one will be a winner for sure. You are right - those fifties cars are a challenge with all that extra trimwork and interior detailing. Looking forward to seeing it all finished.

Re: 58 Chevy Impala mild kustom
The graphics look well balanced to scale, I sure do not envy the BMF job ahead of you. That is a good looking model but the BMF part keeps me away. Good luck can't wait to see more.
