Re: Sumfin Stoopid
Scraping (well it would be rolling but it's got no wheels yet) chassis. Those are TPB traction bars, 9" & front springs.
I've Mr Metalled (like Alcladding, but with Mr Metal) the wheels and they can go on when I give them a lick with the polishing cloth & clear the white wall inserts.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
I have tried that Mr Metal stuff but it just rubs off - what's the secret?

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
Don't rub too hard and either seal it with clear or don't handle it.
If I brush it on then I put it gloss cleared grey primer and only polish it just enough to get a shine. Then clear with gloss acrylic clear (White Knight Crystal Clear).
If you brush it on over gloss black and rub most of it off you get a rather nice black metal effect - like expensive japanese crockery!
I've just started airbrushing very thin coats at 15psi over gloss black enamel and I get a much better shine. It'll still rub off if you polish too hard though. Black is just starting to show through on the edges of the rims for this thing but I might get away with it as it looks like a highlight (lowlight?) in the reflections in the chrome.
As the shine is due to metal in the paint it'll tarnish and lose shine with time unless you clear it. I do have some clear made specifically for metalisers but I haven't tried it yet as the White Knight stuff is going on OK.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
Doesn't Alclad rub off and tarnish as well then?

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
It will eventually rub off if you handle it a lot, but it's pretty resistant. And no tarnishing visible yet on any of my builds - some of them are more than two year's old.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
I can't find Alclad locally.
I'm going to persevere with Mr Metal as i'm getting better with it. The secret is in spraying lots of very light coats over a very glossy base.
Something I didn't manage to do on these wheels.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
What's local?
Luke has it at Early Model kits. As does Metro Hobbies in Box Hill. And I'm sure the shop in Boronia probably stock it as well.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
Yeah right, thanks DSF
Some wheels were magnesium, some aluminium, some chromed...
We'll just say these ones need a clean.
Never seen Alclad at Bob's Bryce. He has the Model Master metalisers.

They are quite good too. Not really metal-like, but lots of nice colours and textures and the coverage is awesome.

I just had to laugh. I know what you mean though. I've got Mr Metal Iron, Dark Iron, Aluminium, Stainless Steel and Chrome and while they don't necessarilly look like what they are supposed to they give some good effects if lightly buffed.
I'll have to grab some of the MM stuff next time I get to Bobs.

Re: Sumfin Stoopid
Thanks folks. I'm designing decals today instead of working..
Slowly - it's yellow candy with red candy on the sides. Not really a fade, more 2 complimentry colours.
Paul - where's Mr Hobby? I've not been there. I got Alclad same place as these candies - Hiroboy.
