Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
I added some orange flake as a border,, then tried to add some white pearl as a finer edge to that.
Use the same tape and masking techniques for both but the white pearl bled under the tape and made a huge mess.
I'll try a rescue mission tomorrow, but if it doesn't work, all the paint comes off and we start again with the filling and sanding.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
Rescue mission failed, many coats of paint still too soft to sand, so it's gunna hafta sit for a few days.
Fixed the bonnet then did the old chrome foil mask for some scallops, looked good utill I pulled the mask and found I have one scallop longer then the other! GRRRR!
So I'm over this POS and moved on to a chopped AMT '49 Merc.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
Bugger. Let it gas out and try sanding before you strip. It's a real PiTA having to redo filling and sanding (unless you're one of those weirdos who enjoy it).

Some models are just like that, my current build is doing the exact same thing to me.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
I say big thumbs up to the people who popularised "velvet" paint on rods & kustoms.
A coat of satin clear can be a godsend hiding dodgy paint or bodywork.
Military modellers have it easy not having to do shiney paint.
Don't take this the wrong way Carps but the fact that even you can stuff up (and admit to it) is in a way gratifying.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
Thanx Bill, had a few car guy friends around for a little party on the day, pics shortly.
Zen, I'm blaming the tape.
This is the first time I've used the narrow strips of masking taype that come on sheets by Gunze Sangyo or however it's spelled from Japan. Maybe I didn't use enough pressure to ensure the edges were stuck down, I dunno, but figure it was at least the same pressure I use with my usual Tamiya tape.
Although the scallop mask was BMF, for that I blame my crappy eyesight.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
Zen, I have to retest the tape, coz I'm still not convinced it wasn't something I screwed up by not paying enough attention.
Every year I invite a few friends and a bunch of musicians around on my birthday and we party, this year even Bryce, Artus and Paul turned up. The shindig usually starts around 3;00pm on Friday and finishes up when Ma Nature turns the lights out on Sunday evening.
As promised, here's a couple of pics.

Re: Slightly altered '51 Chevy Fleetline.
Yo Bill it was late '58 when V-dubs got the large squarish rear window. But I'm more interested in the twin headlight job behind the V-dub.
Carps I can only say you sure know how to throw a party!
