68 camaro kitbash
Hi all. Happy new beer!!....ahh Year.
I'll be using parts of these.
To make this.
I will be using an AMT 67 body with chassis, suspension, engine, interior tub etc from the Revell 69 Z-28.
The MPC 69 conv will supply the bonnet and steering wheel.
The Revell 69 conv will donate the door trims and ext door handles.
The AMT 68 will supply the seats, grill and tail lights.
and the 70 Z-28 will supply rear drum brake backs. I started with the front suspension and modified the ends.
I cut off the odd shaped diff ends and replaced them with evergreen tube.
and did the same with the drive shaft.
Also made new front springs from wire and rear shocks from Evergreen rod.
Made a brake line from brass rod.
This car will be the most detailed model I've built. It will feature my first detailed engine and have oil and brake lines and carb linkage details on quad sidedraught webers.
More pics soon.
CheersSS

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Sweet, look forward to more.
How come it has to be made from so many kits? Is that how the original was done? Just curious that's all, I have no idea.

Just so I can add more detail and I'm fussy. After finding the AMT/Matchbox 68 kit was a bit warped I started to use parts from a AMT 67 then I started to wonder if I could make a Revell chassis fit, and it did. Then I had to make the Revell interior tub fit and it did. The two 69 convertibles and the 70 are supplying parts that I feel I need to get it up to spec. The AMT kits are good basic kits but I wanted more more moooore.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Ok update time. these are the areas that need to be trimmed to make the Revell chassis fit into the AMT body.
Mock up of the interior. Tub is Revell Z-28. Orange seats are from the AMT 68. Door panels are Revell 69 conv and the rear side panels are modified from the Z-28 parts. Dash is from the AMT 67 and the steering wheel is MPC 69 conv.
I have replaced the moulded in door handles with shaped evergreen strips and changed it from power windows to manual type.
I have made some vents for the dash and some pull buttons and added PE glovebox and ignition locks. I've deleted the radio and heater controls and will add some gauges later.
I modified a racing seat from a Revell GT350R to be more like the type that may have been run.
That's all for today. I'll give you a sneak peek of the engine parts tomorrow.
Cheers SS

I'm using side draught webers because that was the setup that Norm Beechey used during the 60's in his Nova and on his Monaro's, and as he ran the Camaro after the Nova and before the HK Monaro I just took a wild stab in the dark as to what carb setup was run. Most of the Fords did use the quad down draught weber setup in the 60's though.
Here's the side draught system I'm building. Just needs some detail painting and fuel lines and she'll be ready to go.
A bit of everything went into it, resin, PE, brass rod, coke can, turned alloy and evergreen strip and rod. I lost enough little bits to keep the carpet monster fed for weeks

Carbies look good. I'd say your guess is correct as surely downdrafts would be sticking up through the bonnet in the pics you posted.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Thanks guys. I've made further progress on the engine. It's the Revell Z-28's 302 pretending to be a 350. I don't believe there is much scale difference between the two, but I'm more than happy to be informed otherwise.
I made individual pulleys, used MCG PE on the alternator and made mounting brackets for it and the belts are electrical tape. The hoses are leftovers from a long gone Tamiya 1:12 F1 car with BMF clamps, it just needs a wired dizzy and it's headers which I think I might paint Alclad stainless steel. It's my first ever fully detailed engine and I'm happy with it so far.
Have also done some more of the interior. Got it painted, BMF'd and decaled.
Made a new gearshift with a pin and a blob of superglue thickened with talc and sanded into a knob. The lever on it was a hand operated clutch lever that Norm Beechey used on some of his cars. It's made from a strip of coke can and wire.
That's all for today. Let me know if I missed anything.
Cheers SS

You serious? This is work done by someone who knows what they are doing, the detailing work is excellent.
How did you make your pulleys?

, that's some bloody stellar work there and I love that shifter too
Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Beautiful work so far and no externally the 302 and 350's are the same, just internal stuff thats different. In fact all small blocks from 265 up to 400 are all the same on the outside. HTH

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
That MPC/AMT SS396 convertible is probably the worst kit I have ever tried to build. Glad to see that it has 2 parts that are of use.

LOL and even then the steering wheel was the wrong type for that kit. From what I saw before I spread it around my spare parts boxes that kit was an absolute stinker.
Had my first (and hopefully last) calamity today when I was sanding the Goodyear lettering off of the tyres, the bloody things started to peel. I hoped I could get rid of it by sanding them some more but it had no effect.
Of course they were the only ones I had that were the right size and width but I do have two more which are the right size but too wide so I'll try to narrow them this week and see.
and Kane I might do a mini tutorial for the pulleys to show you how I did them.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Have you tried using thinners on your tyres, takes the shine off and if you rub long enough it will take the lettering off as well, I use General purpose thinners.
