Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Great work so far! Are you sure the lever on the shifter is for clutch though? I thought it was a throttle blipper for downshifts...

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Update Time..
I've been working on the engine bay and during all of the dry fitting I noticed that there was a lot of day light showing through the front area so I decided to box it in.
An advantage to this is that the radiator bulkhead now has an area that it can be mounted to rather than vaguely sitting where it was. I have also extended the sides of the rad bulkhead so it comes closer to the inside of the body shell. I was going to take pics of it too but it cracked and is now under repair.
Wheels and Tyres
After the peeling probs that I had with the rear tyres I had to substitute the duds with wider tyres from my stash but I had to cut them down. I cut them down the centre and removed about 1.5 - 2 mm then glued them back together. They're not 100% but close enough to not really notice too much. Before and after.
I have fitted the rear drums with ther backs to the rear wheel back halves.
These are the wheel and brake components.
I have cast the wheel and brake parts myself from various sources and the tyres are from Perry's Resin.
I've been slack in getting the body painted but I hope to do it this week. There is not much fabrication work left to do, just the grill, oil cooler and brake ducts.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Hello all. I have finally made more progress on the Camaro, managed to get the body painted at last and have completed the interior.
I decided to go with two racing seats to help make it more race car than road car. It looks like it might take a couple of more weeks to finish this thing as I like to let the paint sit for a while before I polish it up.

This is a work of art, soooo realistic. Very nice work
The engine looks spot on and so does the interior, oh yeah, love how you narrowed the tyres, great job.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm still making progress on the Camaro. Here's some more things done.
Wheels, brakes and tyres are done.
Front suspension is done and glued in place.
Chassis and rear suspension are painted and detailed. The diff and springs etc will be glued in after the chassis is installed into the body.
The radiator bulkhead with the oil cooler and oil lines in place.
The kits radiator has some ejector pin markings in the mesh which on a standard road car would be covered by the fan shroud, so I replaced the centre with another from my spares box. Also visible is the breather tank which was made from the AMT Camaro's Battery. It will have some lines running from it to the front of the rocker covers.
The front grille has been a right royal PITA. I carved, cut, ground and sanded the crap out of it. Will be replacing the kits moulded in head lights with parts from the Revell Camaro and have made a new centre section out of evergreen which will have a MCG PE grille fitted later. I have cracked and re-glued it 3 times so far and have had 3 tries at making that centre section and have already destroyed 1 PE grille.
I have finally wired the engine and fitted the headers so expect some pics ths week. Thanks for looking.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
Thanks Kane. There's no real trick to it as the tyre already had a groove so all I had to do was fill the groove with paint and Bob's ya uncle. If there is a way to do a tyre without a groove I would like to know how too.Kane wrote:Looking so sweet. How did you do your white line on your tyres? Radiator section looks really neat.

Wow that would be fantastic Tezza. I just hope I can deliver a quality finished product.
For anybody interested, I will post some pictures of the completed engine in the Small Things thread.

Re: 68 camaro kitbash
This update might be the last as she's almost done.
I realised the other day that I hadn't done the brake lines from the master cylinder so I took care of the with some wire.
The body has been painted, polished, windowed and BMF'd and is ready to go.
I'll put the decals on after it is mated to the interior and chassis to reduce the chance of damage. I am also waiting for the MCG PE set to be delivered and as soon as it's here (hopefully this week) I'll finish her off.
Cheers SS
