56 chev
Not sure how this one got to the front of the bench, but it did.
It's an old glue bomb that I did many years ago. Had plans for it that I started but couldn't do at the time (probably still can't), so now I'm trying to do something else with it. If I can pull off what I want, this will be my most modified kit so far.
So far I have sectioned the body by about 2mm (first time in doing this). I had to take a pic of an unmodified 56 wheel arch to show myself just how different it looked cos I couldn't really see much difference. I'm gonna try and knock up/modify a new roof for it. I have the original style roof now thanks to Sports 850, but have been thinking of something a bit sleeker now. The parts I got from him got me thinking of something else again if I don't use the roof for this one.
Any way, on to the pics so far.
original wheel arch
new one
got a custom 58 impala front end that I wasn't using so now I'll be modifying this one to suit what I'm after. Still need to incorporate a mustang front bumper as well.
If anyone has a spare set of 57 chev headlight buckets and lenses that they aren't gonna use, please let me know as I'd like to put them in and modify the front look and all mine a currently in use, or will be soon hopefully. Possibly trade or pay for them etc.

Re: 56 chev
Making little steps with this one.
after sectioning the body 2mm, the backend was too low, so I fixed that by taking 2mm from it.
Before:
After:
I also couldn't see how I was going to get this thing to sit as low as I want it to, so I thought I'd give making a completly new chassis for it. So here is the very early stages of that effort. Hopefully I can make it all stay together now and it'd be nice if it stays square as well.
Now I've gotta go and get some more styrene otherwise this will never get finished with the amount that I have left.
I've also got to work out how to extend the headlight area to fit the 57 headlights properly that I got from dv8v8. Thanks again for that.
So if anyone has some tips on the best way of doing that, please feel free to let me know. I do have some sheet styrene to use which does seem flexible enough to bend around the shape.

Re: 56 chev
Little more done over the weekend. Got the extensions for the headlights done. Seems to fit the headlights quite well, so I'll sort the shape out better (if it needs it) once I get to the stage where I put the first coat of primer on.
Very basic chassis so far. Have done a little more to this, but don't have that pic yet. I have to extend the front rails about 1cm more. Measure twice, cut once, now throw them away and measure for the third and fourth time seems to be my motto.
Just a pic to show the difference between the original 56 front compared to how it is now.
I'm really enjoying this build so far. It's taking me out of my comfort zone which is a good thing. Hope I can finish it as well as I'm hoping too.

Re: 56 chev
Things are slowly progressing.
I've finally decided to use the roof I got from Sports850 for this one. I was trying to fab one from scratch, but I'm obviously not quite at that level yet. I didn't want to modify it, but once again, that had to happen to suit what I'm trying to build. Still more mods to happen around the back window area, and somehow try to make the vent window areas look a bit more realistic as well.
The chassis has also progressed a little. I took the front end and diff from the "custom" bits from the 56 delray kit, along with the wheels. Still need to finish up the suspension parts etc.

Re: 56 chev
Good work, body needs alot of work, but enough time and effort will have it turned around. As for the pillars (or is this classed as pillar-less?), I reckon a little sanding and a bit of work with a scriber should do the trick.
Looking good, keep at it and keep us updated

Keep it up.
A light coat of primer will help show you where you are and what areas need more attention.

Gunna have fun with those pillars, keep at it, you'll get there.

Re: 56 chev
Cheers for the comments and tips everyone.
Compared to how it started, I think the body has come a long way (still a long way to go too). Still more sanding to get it flat etc. that I can see at the moment, and I'm sure the primer will show more.
I'm hoping to get back to this one real soon and I'll keep you all updated. Whether you want it or not.

Re: 56 chev
I've been away from the bench for a while. Been doing some long over due work to the house which involved having to pack up and move my bench etc. I'm slowly making more sense of the room again and hope to be back at this one soon. Got a couple mins to make some (slight) changes to the rear window and chassis.
I realised that the trans mount was too far back and also had nowhere for the exhausts to go, so I modified the mount slightly at the same time. I now have to raise a back section of the chassis now too for the exhausts to go all the way to the back (unless I can find another path for them).
I've thinned out the c pillars a bit, and made the top of the window a little higher. I may still need to make the window bit wider yet. Just not sure yet.
Hopefully get more time again soon to finish off some more body mods and get some primer on it, so that I can fill and sand some more.
The engine in the background is the planned engine at this stage, but not in those colours. No idea what stuff that younger me was on to make me think that those colours went together. It's from a 93 (approx) corvette that is my latest car to become curbside (once it's reassembled).

I really liked his work, it is becoming beautiful. The chassis is very well done, one day learn to do.
Hugs.
