Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
Hey there all, been fiddling with my next project, AMT 39' Wagon Rod. This kit is pretty well detailed but im going to go a step further.
The plan is to sit it on its guts with a set of Pegasus low rider spokes,
Next, i plan on wiring and plumbing every thing i think i possibly can, started by making the water cross-over pipe from copper instead of plastic.
Then i have wired the ALT, plumbed the A/C pump, and plumbed the power steering down to the steering rack.
Next step was to plumb the air-bag compressor to all 4 airbags and do battery cables and fuel line.
well, thats it so far, back to the bench now,

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
G'Day guys, have spent approx 4 hours trying something different with hinges today, trying to open rear door at a 45 degree angle and have split the hood down the middle so it opens outwards.
I think i have got it, but we all know how things dont work or fit on final assembly.(fingers crossed.)
more tomorrow i hope.

Ooh nice, any ideas on colours? The right paint will really make this a winner.

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
Thanks Mopar, as you can see, the chassis is in a "persian sand gold, which will also be the basis of the striping, the body will be a dark "cranberry" flavour, with a few variations of shades with both colours, ( i hope).

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
More painting done,
masked over the gold and covered it with cranberry.
Unmask the first lot of stripes revealing the silver, then put more coats of cranberry over silver.
This is what i have ended up with, still needs BMF, wet sand and more clear.
5 Hours painting is enough for me today i think, will fix a few bits tomorrow when paint has set a bit.

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
Looking very cool Dale. Love the Cranberry and the way you have hinged the bonnet and rear door.
Just a question, have you tried Tamiya tape? It will give you a real crisp line when you pull the tape off , you can bend it like the blue sluff as well, it also low tac so is great for any paint. Comes in different widths as well. That's what I use on all mine and very rarely have to do any touch ups. None on the 2 below and they are both Acrylic Lacquer. Just

I agree with above comments. A great looking build that will knock the socks off its opposition when completed. Also agree with Tubman - Tamiya masking tape is tops in my book.

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
Thanks guys, no i haven't tried tamiya tape , never had a problem until this one, maybe its because of the amount of paint i had to put on being transparent, will try it next time i think as i have a few more sets of spoke wheels left. By the way, i've changed wheels on this one as there is so much gold in it, i used another option.
Now into salvage mode, i don't want to do this all over again.
cheers,

Retro, Gene Winfield would kick your arse, Panel painting like that was accredited to LARRY WATSON, RIP
Winfield is famous for fade away painting.

Rod, appreciate the correction, but That is exactly what I meant, that fade down through the centre of the roof. I agree, RIP Larry, you will be missed, but never forgotten.

Re: Low ridin' Wagon-Rod
Hey guys, got a little bit more done today,
Got the interior done and some detail underneath the floor-pan.
This won't really be seen, but, being a low rider, i figured it needed to be done.
Chassis, suspension, drive line all done,
will get polished tomorrow and hopefully finished, have 1 week left on holidays, so should get one more done i hope.
