The process of design.
1) look at cars on the web. Why? Beats me. Something retriggered the interest.
2) Make a sketch. Oops. Now we need to buy some models.....

3) Start building.

Hotwheels Monster Jam monster truck. I only found them myself a few days back, but apparently a lot of road warrior builders are using them, and the wheels of the Ertl John Deere stuff. Time will tell how good an idea that is though, because the Ertl tyres are soft, and I have had too many soft tyres turn into goo. All the Revel Unimog and the big Simba firetruck tyres turned to goo years ago.

Is that an F1 engine in that VW?
I suppose with a road warrior build you are only limited by your imagination. Way to go.

Yup, a Tamiya 1/20 F1 engine I got out of a glue bomb. Lower floor pan and entire suspension section is F1. The original wing mount is sticking up through the rear hood. I didn't put the wing on though, because it just looked wrong.

It needs more... but more what?

And for the main build:
Having got rid of ALL of my car/truck/1:25 parts I find myself short of all sorts of things I used to take for granted. I can't just grab a fuel tank, some little tools or whatever. I have to go BUY it. I don't even have any evergreen sheet, and DOH I didn't buy any when I was at the hobby shop a week back. Well, at least there is ebay. Shipping from UK is cheaper than driving somewhere to buy it. Sorry, local suppliers. Not one of you had the stuff on ebay!

That front axle looks so scrawny! It is stronger than anything else in this build though. Brass and nickel silver that has been silver brazed together!

Making a custom font axle meant I had to make custom hubs/steering too.

drool Really diggin' your work, make sure to keep us upto date.
I hear you on the Evergreen stuff from UK. I had the same problem. My local hobby (which is still 50km away) had SFA, got it off that nasty place much cheaper than what they wanted.

I appear to have derped on the exhaust pipe placement.
Yesterday was spent on the merc behind it. Today's free time was mostly spent asleep.

My "local" hobby shop is quite some distance too. One would be 45-50km. I do think another is closer than it though, but I am out that way less often.

It continues to progress, despite me working on another build at the moment. The other build is... gross, twisted, a glue and paint bomb - all quite deliberately.

The rust is the combination of a base coat of auto primer, and me dry brushing whatever is left on my brush after painting other things. Pretty much the same technique I've been using for years.
