Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
Inspired by some of the Mad Max and other post-apocalypse models I have seen so far...and possessing a 76 Caprice that I didn't know what to do with...has lead me to this. I have ground off the exhaust system on the chassis and removed the back-half of the interior tub, as well as opened up the boot lid. I felt that it wasn't likely that petrol or diesel would be easily available in this time so did some research on 'gassification'. After reading numerous articles on wood gassification, I came across some articles about gas converters that will burn anything...wood, paper, cow manure, turkey remains, road kill, shoes, etc...and voila'...I am developing my own gas converter...you can see some of the research material in the background.

Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
INTERESTING, but will it work? Down here in tassie you could run it on road kill for at least the next 100 years, don't think i would want to follow you though, bit ripe on the nose.

Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
It's an older technology that was used widely during WWII when gasoline was in short supply. You can read and see more about it here http://www.lowtechmagazine.com/2010/01/wood-gas-cars.html , plus read about a modern revival in wood-fired gas converted cars.
Great idea for a model car too.

FWIW that body & interior tub is an almost perfect fit onto an AMT '70 Superbee prostreet chassis. Another one of my "i'll get to it one day" projects...

Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
Seems like a waste of a good pro street chassis
BUT interesting fact none the less. Only reason I bought the caprice kit was for the trailer. Like most probably.

hmmm, interesting...you are starting to win me over on this idea....I'll be completely sold if you tell me that all engine will be UNDER the bonnet and it will be wearing the least attractive 70's automobile paint you can get ya grubby mits on...something like beige, or metallic brown, or even a real pastey looking orange.

Like your thinking. Not the direction I was going but it has its merits.

Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
it was also the reason the nazis put ethanol into their V2 rockets. it's also a good move for Zen as it'd likely happen if gasoline was scarce, like in Max's world.tezza43 wrote:It's an older technology that was used widely during WWII when gasoline was in short supply.
Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
Toms building the gas-car. Not me. I'm just hijacking
During WW2 in they UK some cars had gas stored in large saggy bladders on the roof. Sort of looked like a dirigible was getting amarous with them.

Re: Post-apocalypse 76 Caprice
Heh he heh.
At least you've started it. All I ever do to mine is get it out, look at it, think how well the SuperBee chassis fits and then pit it away again.
