Triple threat theme builds...
G'day guys, thought I'd share my latest WIPs, only because I'm on a time-limit & they absolutely HAVE to be completed
First off I'll explain the projects/theme. All 3 will be B'day present for him. His B'day is New Year's day.. 01.01.13... Hence that being the deadline. The Ralliart Colt is his daily driver & I'm replicating it as best I can, from the obscure Fujimi stock Colt kit ( pics attached ) The Camaro is Revell's newly released 2010 proper detail kit & the 06 'Vette is also 1 of Revell's.
My mate's unaware of the 2 Chevs I'm building but know's I'm building the Colt for him. I've told him it'll be ready for his B'day. While on 1 of my Sydney visits, a few weeks ago, he showed me an old Plymouth Superbird ( he'd kept it ) that I'd built for him, many moons ago, in his favourite League team's ( Parramatta Eels) colours. Wasn't anything too fancy, just blue/yellow colours & some after market wheels etc, standard enamel paints too! 😜
Anyway the more I looked at it & the more amber fluid we consumed that weekend, the more thought I gave to updating a new Parramatta themed car for his next B'day. Although the ol' Superbird has stood the test of time, I've come a long way in my skill levels in the past 20+ years since the 'Bird build. Over the course of the weekend I poked & prodded what new type of Chevy he liked, as I already knew his all-time fav' was the Vettes. The clear winner was the new Camaro... He love's them! So now I had the cars I knew he liked I had to set up a build plan.... I'd already gotten the Colt kit off eBay & I headed down to my LHS & grabbed the 2010 Camaro & 06 Vette kits. I had the colour scheme all planned out & I knew exactly where to get the paints ( Hiroboy's Zero-Paints UK )
I picked out the Corvette Le Mans Yellow & Lamborghini Blu-Nova. For those of you from outside of Qld/NSW, the Eels colours are yellow/blue. I'll attach some jersey pics to give you an idea of the theme. I want these builds to stand the test of time too & really want to make them something special, for him anyway. Something he can proudly show off to our/his other friends, family etc. So with my brain ticking over trying to come up with what more I could do, to make them REALLY Parramatta cars, I was steered toward a guy in the U.S who make's custom decals. I got a hold of him & over several emails & weeks he made me exactly what I wanted... The Eels logos, both the old & new versions. I also had him make up some EELS-SE ( special edition logos ) for badging, for the seats & also custom ( EEL47 ) plates. They entered the Comp' in 1947. I had 3 sheets made up, in case I stuff up etc ( as we generally do!! ). Since I was having them custom made I decided what the hell, might as well get myself some St.George Dragons logos too! ( my favourite team ) All up it cost me $60 but that also included $22 of Western Union fees! ( greedy bastards! ) I won't harp on about that because Money isn't an issue for me for these presents, simply because what he gave me for my B'day last month more than make's up ( & then some ) what money/time/effort I'll be putting into these builds. Just so you know where I'm coming from, & by no mean's am I a rich bloke, but he gave me a fully-signed & framed 2010 Dragons Premiership Jeresy worth $1600 (1/300 ) made & all sold out! To say I was pretty stoked would be very, very understated 😳😉😄😄
So I figure a couple hundred bucks for the kits, decals, paint & nothing else but my time/effort, i'm getting the better suck of the sav'
Anyway here's some pics of where I'm at with all 3...
First up the Colt...
Kit...
Cutting, adding, sanding etc....
As you can see there's a fair bit different between the Ralliart/Stock versions...
My mate's wheels aren't the stock Ralliart versions either, he's got some custom 17s on his & I'm using some 19in resins that are almost the same as his... Almost...
Here it is now after weeks of sanding/priming etc... In gloss black...
Here's the custom decals I had made by Greg Holland...
Here are the kits I'm using & Parramatta's home/away jerseys...
Home Jersey...
Away Jersey...
The Camaro will represent the "Home" car...
The 'Vette is the "Away" car...
Both cars have Aoshima 2-piece 20in wheels. The Camaro wear's the Eels old-style emblem/logo & the 'Vette wear's the modern style emblem/logo.
I'll be adding all the other decals before clear coats. As you'll notice on the jerseys, the Eels also have the 4-stripes down their sleeves. I'll be adding ( yellow for Camaro, Blue for 'Vette, stripes from front to back after the decals are sealed. I was originally going to gloss clear them both but after showing some pics to my bro-in-law ( also a Parra' fan ) he convinced me to keep the Camaro in a matte version... So I agreed! The 'Vette will get the Gloss & the Camaro the matte.
Ok guys... Sorry about the epic first page/ramblings, but I thought it necessary to give some background on the WIPS & why I'm building Chevies!!!
Cheers & thanx for stopping by... Cliffo

Re: Triple threat theme builds...
Hey guys, thanx for all the cool comments 👍
Don't worry mgy125 I'll be onto a Dragons Mopar mobile soon enough mate 😉😉
Spent a bit of time this arvo, before headin' off to work, on putting all the interior decals on & the rest of the body decals...
Here's the interior parts...
Side/rear badging for the Vette...
& the camaro...
Hopefully I'll get them all sealed, over the weekend, then start the harrowing masking off task & lay down the 4-stripes along the bodies 😁 Just have a quick poll-question... I'm definitely doing the Camaro's stripes straight down the middle but I was wondering if you guys think the 'Vette would look better having the stripes go down more off-centre ( probably down the right side) or should I just lay 'em same as Camaro, right down the middle??
Cheers all, Cliffo 😊👍

I hate stickers. Just too fiddly and difficult to get right, so to me, you've done an awesome job with all those extra detail stickers. Top job

Re: Triple threat theme builds...
Thanx Adam 👍
Got a bit of work done today on the Parra cars... With the Vette I changed the wheel colour. It's more in keeping with the dark blue of the new style logo, the other blue, like they were previously just didn't suit the Vette. Also I'm going to go without adding the striping, it would distract from the great decals & the shape of these decals would make masking it all off a very painful & intricate job! So I'll just clear coat the Vette & call it done. Here's the pics...
For the Camaro... I got the stripes on, what do you guys think??
( bit of bleed through on rear but I'll fix that up before clear coats )
Cheers Cliffo 👍

Re: Triple threat theme builds...
Thanks Capt'! Mate you're welcome to steal my idea... Just don't build a Dragons car!! If you're not able to make your own decals then I'm more than happy to refer you to the guy that made mine, Greg Holland... His email is vsrn@hotmail.com... Let him know about me/the decals he did for me, as he's now got these on file & can whip up a batch quicker
And guys... Just so ya know... My bench is bloody full... I've been working on/off on these as well...
2 x Lambos, Aventador & Gallardo, Ferrari 458 & Audi R8 Spyder... Phew. They're all painted & polished & awaiting everything else. I've got annual leave in August so I'll be doing a big interior/engine/chassis etc session then. Hopefully I'll have these theme cars done by then
Cheers Cliffo

There's a few nice bodies there mate, (no hemi's though ), that orange lambo really pops the pearl in that shot, look forward to them being finished.

Re: Triple threat theme builds...
Thanx DC. That Gallardo is painted ( Zero paints ) in the Aventador's first original colour, can't quite remember the name, but it IS a pearl. The Aventador is Verde Itaca, 458 is Ferrari Silverstone ( all true match Zero paints/Hiroboy ) & the Audi is HOK Cinnamon pearl. Phew. Mate I'll alway's be a Mopar boy, that won't ever change, it's just that I needed a rejuvenation & my second love is the exotics & having quite a few in my stash I may of gotten over enthusiastic
But don't fret mate, after I've completed all these & the theme builds I'll be back... With Hemi power . My bro-in-law is a huge Mopar fan, as well as a long suffering Parra' fan too, so he's put in his request for either a Cuda or new Chally... In Parra' guise... But I've got til late Feb' next year to put that together
I've also got major plans for another Triple Threat build, Mopars of course, that I've been gathering kits/parts etc for... 2 bodies are resin ( tip ... Also having some very special custom wheels been made for me by a good o/s mate. Should be a mammoth effort of Mopar building next year ...
Cheers Cliffo

Here's a couple of better pics of the Gallardo, DC. Colour is called Arancio Argos Mica, it's a 2-part pearl. Almost finished final polishing... Little bit more to do I reckon...
Yes, those wheels are going on it. They're the extra set that come with the Aventador kit

Thanks Bear 👍
I couldn't deal with the camaro being left in Matte so I gloss coated, ( only the hood do far ) & I've since wet-sanded/polished it out. It's settled 100% now... Both will be gloss... I don't know why I do this to myself, adding the hours upon hours of sanding-polishing... I think I've become addicted to polishing? Am I nuts?? Lol
Cheers Cliffo
