Kannonball Kombi
Hi all,
started something different for the new year, VW combi, California Roller kit.
Gonna build it so it could run in the Cannonball run, or even Targa Tas.
Found an engine and trans-axle in my parts box. Turns out to be a Twin cam Cosworth V8 out of an old formula 1.
narrowed the rear a bit, and had to invert it aswell.
Abit of chopping and sheet metal, oops, plastic work to make it all fit.
A hint of colour.
Keep you all up-dated.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Nice. I like to see serious, considered, practical builds.
1/20 Tamiya donk?
Got the F1 slicks that go with it as they'd look really good on this rig.

Thanks Fred, NO IDEA what scale it is, looks 1/24-25, thats all i have, is the engine and trans-axle, slicks would look good, but going for thatzenrat wrote:Nice. I like to see serious, considered, practical builds.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Ahh crap !!! Its still in its infancy ...and all I have seen is the basic body and engine ...and I already want a 1:1 (Yes I am a closet dak dak fan)

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Loving it so far, i love the look of the wire wheels with this but agree with Fred that the F1 tyres would look great when looking from behind.
Have you ever seen that two vans have been done like this in the past? Ford used a Transit van and dropped a DFL (updated version of the DFV) V8 engine and this thing went hard, then a few years later Renault did it with an Espace which again looked and sounded great.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Thanks for the input guys, i see where your coming from with the big tyres, would look awsome from the rear, but gonna try to run with the theme i've got going with the wires. Yes, i have seen the transit on top gear, pretty wicked and the Espace, loved driving it on Gran Tourismo, almost as quick as the F1 it was based on.Shunter wrote:Loving it so far, i love the look of the wire wheels with this but agree with Fred that the F1 tyres would look great when looking from behind.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
A little help please, i need to put a scoop somewhere, to facilitate a breather of some sorts for the engine, somewhere to hook up the ducting for the induction.
option 1. on the roof. ?
option 2, one each side.?
I'm leaning toward the side option, but??? not real sure.
Got a bit more done today, made a fuel tank, boxed the chassis underneath for the base of it, and made some tubs for the FRONT wheels.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Coming along nicely.
I'd go with the side ones as well. They look better and I think from a functional sense, they'd get better airflow.

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Enjoying it so far. As for scoops i am going with the roof mounted, i think with a nice down in the weeds and the roof having some extra lines to it, thats the goods.
Re: Kannonball Kombi
We had a kombi runnin around liverpool nsw in the 70's with a v8 in it and he had two induction tubes runnin up the back and out to the side up near the roof .
Re: Kannonball Kombi
I'd go with side ducts DC, but what about inset side scoops and those externals ones on the roof in lieu of a spoiler??
Oh and yeah road tyres if it's going Kannonball!

Re: Kannonball Kombi
How about scoops on the roof for the induction and some on the sides for the radiators?

Re: Kannonball Kombi
Thanks for the feed back guys, i have put the scoops in the pic, on each side, an also thinking of doing something on the roof, but thinking of insetting it, so it can't be seen from the side view.
thanks again guys, all input has got me thinking a bit harder, and further out side that box.

Cool Build I,d use the roof for motor and the sides for the radiators
Check this out
I'd like to build something like this different engine and colour
