"MERCY" the Mercury
Hey All, well this is my first out for 2013. It's an AMT '49 Mercury given the Junkyard treatment. Wheels are gone, carb is gone of the ol' flatty, spare tyre, hay bale and a bellhousing in the boot. Bit of rust, dust and flaking paint, shattered rear glass ready for the dio. The name, you should be able to see where I got it from, haha. All comments welcome, cheers Bruce

Rusty merc..
That's so good, great job on the rust etc. I like the side window half up. It's not a big deal, but it adds so much to the realism.
Ok, so how did you do the rear window? Well done, now all it needs is a little scrap yard diorama. Or is there one already waiting?

Re: "MERCY" the Mercury
There is a junkyard dio type thing in the works Bodgie, I just need to build a few more of these wrecks to put in there. Good spot on the passenger window, I like doing little things like that, cutting gloveboxes open, etc. The rear window was pretty easy to do. Scratch up the rear window with a scalpel, make sure to go zig-zag lines, in all directions. Using a dremel, cut an opening into the rear window, sharpen up the edges with a scalpel, I also like to thin the window from the inside, with the dremel.
Then just put a thin, visable layer of Aquadhere on the parcel shelf, and sprinkle salt across it. After the glue dries, a light coat of hairspray also helps to hold the salt in place.
Voila, shattered window.

The rust effect is...just...rust-nothing looks more like the real deal than the real deal.
