SS Holden UTE
This is my second attempt at one of these. The first time
was 10 years ago and a little out of shape. This time I am using
the Polar lights GTO. it will be built as a 2002 VU SS.
Good old Evergreen and Bog to the rescue again

Re: SS Holden UTE
Your a clever cookie. Still have one of your original bodies. Hopefully you'll see it soon as a monster truck. This version looks awesome, you had better make a couple of copies, how about a phantom van version? The fact the gto is the base will make it easier to build. Cool dude. You need another baby cause you still got too much time on your hands

Re: SS Holden UTE
Bogtastic.
Do you make templates to ensure you get the profile of both sides the same or do you just "eye" it?
I work on the theory that you can never see both sides at the same time so it doesn't matter if they are not identical.

Re: SS Holden UTE
Excellent, as soon as i saw the pic with the side panels in place, it just looked right.
Re: SS Holden UTE
Brilliant mate, i only recently sold my VZ SS Ute (traded up the a VE SS ute). At first i was thinking that the body / tray sides looked a bit short, but as soon as you offered them up to the rest of the body, then shaped it i changed my opinion.
Brilliant work mate. Are you intending to reproduce these in resin or is it just something for your own build?

Re: SS Holden UTE
You traded a VZ ss ute for a VE ss ute omg how can you drive a VE ute worst thing to reverse the rear window is at least half the size of the VY/VZ window and the tray covers are kicked up at the back makes it even harder to see, wouldnt trade my VY ss for nothing not even for a limited edition 429 maloo.

Re: SS Holden UTE
Hey Yugster, I will be modifying the Monaro chassis.
the ute is a fair bit longer aswell as a few other changes.
Motor will be a standard 350 with Holden covers.

Yeah mate, i did. When i bought the VZ i said the same thing but now, i wouldn't look back. The VE window isn't as small as you think, yes, it is a bit smaller, but unless you're one of these people who has their seat all the way down so they can barely even see over the steering wheel, you're not going to have any problems seeing out the back. Personally, i drive a 19t wrecker for a living so i'm used to using my side mirrors for everything and hardly even notice the difference. As for the lid kicking up, the genuine SS (ie: holden made) lid for the VU-VZ did the same thing, it just didnt seem as bad because the tray was actually quite a bit shallower (i can fit my 45 litre engel in this ute, with the VZ it sat 5cm above the top of the tray).
I'd put 65,000km on the VZ in three years (most of them long distance) and it was starting to feel it, there was a mysterious leak in the cabin, when it rained heavy or i washed it, water would come in from behind the dash and onto the go fast pedal (windscreen had been re-sealed, dash removed, all gromets checked and still couldn't fix the problem). Despite having fitted a RAMJET OTR, twin 3" X-Force, lowered it to barely legal stance, fitting very nice 20"s to it and countless other jobs (i sold it with 350rwkw as opposed to the 275kw at the fly from factory) i am happy with my purchase of the VE...
Oh, did i mention the VE i bought has the full suite of Walkinshaw mods with the exception of the Rockford Fosgate stereo, Walkinshaw embroidered headrests and the Walkinshaw supercharger (which is getting fitted at the end of the year)

Both the VZ and VE's come equipped with mirrors as do most vehicles if you cant reverse using them you shouldn't have a licence full stop.
Heaven forbid if you to reverse a windowless panelvan or a ute with a load...............
