'71 Duster
Next on the bench is an AMT '71 Duster that I'm going to use as a simple build, almost OOTB.
Got it cheap off Fleebay and for once I saw a kit I could just build straight up without having to rework too much, a break from my more detailed builds. I reckon the fact that it already had a fuel injected engine and Viper style wheels I thought it was a cool custom build as it was.
I got it already started, with only the body painted in a crappy gunmetal grey, but it's stripped now and the fun begins !!
Thinking Plum Crazy with black bonnet and rear wing or white Viper GTS stripes.............. not decided yet?
This is what I started with;
Stripped and ready to go;

Re: '71 Duster
Going to be a cool looking build mate, but IMO, that is the ugliest rear wing i have ever seen i reckon, either make your own, or run without one i think. But thats just me, not a fan of bird perches .

Re: '71 Duster
This is another of the kits from AMTs "good period" when they rolled out such kits as the '41 woody, '66 442 and my personal favourite (but seemingly impossible to get at a decent price) the '60 Chevy ute.
I've got one of these halfway through becoming a beater with a slant 6 (one of my winter projects - no need for shiny paint) and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Re: '71 Duster
Thanks for the views guys, I was ok with the bird perch, it didn't bother me, but I'm leaning towards the white GTS stripes to kind of round off the Viper theme and there's no way that wing will work with them, so you may have just swayed me
I'm actually quite happy with this kit as there's some cool parts that I've now made molds of for future projects and the detailing is pretty good. Not the prettiest Mopar out there but with a nice coat of shiny stuff and lowered a little it should look cool.

Looking good so far. Rear wing...bye bye. On models and 1/1 cars too. Makes em look cleaner and lower.

Nosaj!! G'day mate, hope we get to see some update pics of the 37 soon.
Not quite on fire, more of a steady smoulder
Some progress on this, it's in primer waiting for paint, the chassis is painted, the engine is painted waiting for all the plumbing and wiring and the it's got new rear tyres care of a Viper kit.
The chassis mods to accommodate the new wider rear tyres, prior to paint
And the new wide rears
Cheers TJ

Re: '71 Duster
That's one of the reasons I picked up this kit as it had this injected donk, I've enhanced it a bit though by using cut down V10 rocker covers. They seemed to work better than the stock looking 340 covers.allan wrote:That's a cool engine for it.
Now you're probably thinking "he said it was going to be out of the box?" well I think my detailing disorder has come through again and some minor mods are starting to show up on this one. But it'll be a much quicker build than my usual's.

Re: '71 Duster
Got some painting done over the weekend.
White base coat on, but needs a little rub to get some dust spots out;
Masked up the seats for a black and white combo;
Black on;
Cheers TJ

Re: '71 Duster
Wow, yellow and white seats look great.
Oh.......
Looks good so far. I bought the newly reissued MPC Dodge Dart on Sunday thinking the body would fit on this chassis. It will, but it won't be a straight swap. The Dart body has a shorter wheelbase and will require 3 or 4 mm taking out of the chassis in order to avoid it showing at the back of the front wheel arches. Also the Dusters inner fenders are moulded to the body and will need to be swapped over.

Re: '71 Duster
Not sure what to do with my '75 Dart yet, probably going for a race version and hence maybe cut the beJesus out of the chassis build a nice detailed race chassis and commit myself to another 6 - 12 month build

Re: '71 Duster
A 75 is it? I did wonder.
My decision to buy it was swayed by the driver figure and the Cheater Slicks.

Re: '71 Duster
Got a bit done over the weekend.
Masked the stripes and shot a couple of coats of colour. Couple of boo-boo's but no biggies, easy fixed.
Engine;
Seats in and door trims done;
The steering column was missing from the kit so I spun one up on the lathe and added ignition and indicator stalk;
Cheers for now.

I has inspired me. Nothing suitable underway at the moment but there will be something white with yellow racing stripes in my future.
