31 Cadillac Roadster
My latest build, finished it Saturday morning, just hours before I took it for it's first outing at SAPMA.
It's an old JoHan Classics series kit that it is decades out of production. I reckon this would have been one of the last ones from the old worn out moulds, as it was absolutely covered in flash. The chrome sprue had the worst finish I have ever seen on a kit (Seriously!), the clear coat under the chrome was all wrinkled up so bad I could not use a single bit as it was. All the chrome was stripped off every part and repainted with Alclad. Three of the outside door handles were broken off of the sprue and missing, when I looked under a magnifying glass I could see that the points where they broke off were actually chromed over so they broke off in the factory, before chroming & never even made it into the box! I'm not surprised though as the plastic is very brittle and easy to snap. Replacements had to be scratch built of course.
I have built it basically OOB with the exception of spark leads and lots of cleaning up, all of the spokes on the wheels were thinned out to give them a more realistic appearance. It's painted similar to a 1:1 that I saw online, in Silver and Burgundy enamel.
Thanks for looking.

Re: 31 Cadillac Roadster
Looks fabulous. i thought a roadster had permanently no roof? regardless, it's classy
Re: 31 Cadillac Roadster
Thanks Fellas, I know these stock old things don't appeal to everyone, but there is a certain quality about them I feel.
Aussie Muscle, you got me thinking about that, this is actually called a Cabriolet on the box, so does that mean anything with a convertible roof is Not a roadster ?
I'm confused now.

Re: 31 Cadillac Roadster
its been a long time since I read about this so im not too sure now but I think a roadster doesn't have windows in the door.

Re: 31 Cadillac Roadster
Very very nice. Good to see one built. I have two of these sitting in my stash, one only partly built. You've inspired me to move it up the priority list.

Re: 31 Cadillac Roadster
Thanks Kev, I really enjoyed building this one. And yep, it took a few nights of work to thin out the spokes, but well worth the effort I reckon, they look so much better.
Cheers
