1956 Special
1966, age 18 I bought my first humpy, 1956 ascot grey over white FJ special sedan. Stock, red interior....$1250 Bill Patterson motors in Ringwood.
Up until 2007 I had 5 fj,s 1 fx at home in Diamond creek.
Always wanted to do models of them...this started out as no 35 of 200 trax 1:25 scale FJ black beauty when they released them years ago. A couple of weeks back I stripped the Trax, and popped a couple of bodies off it.
" />
Promptly cut it all apart....so I could put it back together...?
" />
Had a look around, found that a 57 chev pan, was the least work to use, so cut and shunt the chassis to suit; wasn't worried about taking exhaust etc off.
" />
Knocked up the interior, 53 chev front and rear seats suited the purpose
" />
Made up the firewall, inner guards, and front sheet metal.
" />
Mine had (at this stage) 186, triple 1/1/4 su's...no motor so had to make one.
" />
" />
" />
" />
And the carbys
" />
Jump forward.
" />
Jump again
Mtr painted, plumbed carbys painted, plumbed.
" />
Interior done, my old smiths tacho on dash.
" />
Starting to come together.
" />
" />
Jump again. Basically all together
" />
" />
" />
" />
" />
" />
Have to do the rego, clean it up....then it can move to completed.
So far.....a couple of weeks of enjoyment.
What else do you do in old age ?
Cheers
Clea.
Just a caveat to this:
Sitting in the shed at Portland, you concentrate on what you have, and what you can do. The Trax Black Beauty model was probably worth...$200 ? in box with certs etc. Now...I've got to try and put it back together.
Talking with Antwon (AJ) about FC's...he put me onto the Parts Box, so I got a couple of their bodies to try.
They have FJ bodies..$30+....don't know what they are like, but I reckon if I had got one, would've saved about $300, with body and resin etc ????
And they have the motors.
The things you learn.

Re: 1956 Special
That come out well mate, looks great
I love the raw scratch building you do, that red motor looks spot on
Great stuff Clea, a good fortnights work, wish I could get that kind of time to work on mine.
And this is unique too, you don't see FJ's in resin or styrene, Love it
