Channelled '32 roadster Empty Channelled '32 roadster

Post by Bryce Wed 22 Jul 2009, 12:27 pm

Can't remember if I already started a thread for this or not, but I can't find anything, so I'll start a new one...

I've had this bunch of bits lying around for months. It was kind of inspired by Tony Starks' hot rod in the movie Iron Man. I'm a bit sick of assembling things ATM and got a dose of hot rod fever, so this one is back on my bench. Here’s a quick and dirty mock up to show what I’ve achieved this week while sitting up late watching the Tour de France.

Parts used so far include:

- Revell ‘32 roadster body
- AMT ’32 coupe frame and interior tub
- Shortened resin stock firewall
- Revell ‘31 sedan front axle with dropped ends from AMT ’50 Chevy pickup and radius rods from Revell ’34 Ford snap tite
- Monogram ’32 roadster rear axle and spring and sectioned seat
- Revell ’53 Corvette tyres (rear) and AMT ’34 coupe tyres (front)
- Revell 50 Ford truck Ardun-headed flattie, steel wheels and caps.

I want to try and get the front end a bit lower, so may swap the transverse spring with a flatter one – otherwise I’m pretty happy with how it’s shaping up so far…

Thanks Adam.

Colour scheme will be black with traditional flames and a red and white tuck 'n roll interior - something along these lines:

Looks like a great project I forgot about that rod in Iron man.
A model of Gwyneth Paltrow will be interesting.

Thanks for the nice words guys!

Been making some slow but steady progress with this one.

Got my front and rear axles in:

Channelled '32 roadster IMG_3750

Channelled '32 roadster IMG_3748

The channel made it quite challenging to create mounts for the front radius rods due to a lack of room between the chassis and body, so I had to go with an angle bracket mounted inside the frame – not too sure how legit this is, but it works for me.

Am a bit stuck on rear shocks as I have no room to run them out back and may have to run them off the radius rods.

Quick update on this one – got my engine all together and been painting up all the chassis components, so will hopefully be rolling on wheels some time next week.

How about a set of lever action shocks.
The Revell 37 pickup/van kits have really good ones or you could scratch-build
Nice old timey look as well

Thanks guys - appreciate the nice words! I think I overdid it a bit on the heat stains, but I learnt a lot for next time. Practice makes perfect with these things I find.

ADAMTEP wrote:Just wondering about the rocker covers, the details really stand out! did you use a black wash?
Adam

Yep - a flat black wash followed by lots of dry brushing using Humbrol No.56. Originally I painted them Tamiya flat aluminium along with the intake manifold, but they just looked too plain and boring so I started experimenting.
