Flamin 49 Mercury
Hey Guys, figured I may as well give the showroom a crack! Here's my Revell 49 Mercury, built pretty much stock, apart from a healthy lowering! As this car was basically a painting exercise, I didn't bother with any extra wiring etc. Paint is Tamiya sprays, run through the airbrush, followed by 2K clear.
Hope you like it!

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Now that is one very nice flame job.
The fade look perfect! Beautiful shine, very clean n' tidy.
Luv it!

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
I was about to ask the same question about the vinyl flames template. That's a magnificent high gloss you've achieved - well done Chris.

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
HATE IT, those flames are perfect, the gloss is awesome, why can't I get my flames looking like that. We need to know the secret, if it's a mask, where do I get it.
Beautiful job mate and welcome aboard.

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Thanks guys, glad you like it! The flames were done using a vinyl mask, which i've just started producing (also have 32 ford and 55-6-7 Chev sets). If you're interested in a set, please send me message! Once i've got some pics of the actual masks I'll post in the aftermarket section. Thanks again for the comments!
Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Those flames are freakin' awesome. That is without a doubt the best build of this kit I have ever seen. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Another one of my posts gone missing?!
The gremlins must have got loose...
I said (or tried to say) earlier that this is a flamin' good job although the shine (while being great) looks out of scale to me.

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Hey Chris, this thing blew me away when you emailed it to me the other day, than when I seen it on the weekend it stopped me dead in my tracks! I showed about a dozen people it during the show.
And the great part was I won a set of masks in the raffle! Although Ive got to get a set of 57 Chev and 32 Fords ones of you too!

That looks good Chris but i reckon when we do the mask for the truck (T900) that experiment will be even better.

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Chris After seeing your Merc and the others at Tumut last weekend, I was quite impressed with your template idea. They are on my shopping list , particularly the '32 Ford . I love flamed cars so I am now wanting to do another Revell Mercury, with FLAMES . I'll let you know when I need them. ok

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Thanks for the high ratings, guys! Anytime you're ready, Ron, give me yell. I'm gonna start messin around with a set that can be painted (hopefully!) with spray cans too. It will be a bit more simplified to suit the cans.
Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Chris i'm going to have a crack at using the Merc mask I got with Holts cans mate. We'll see how she turns out dude.

Re: Flamin 49 Mercury
Chris / Rob Wiyh the spray cans , I think if you start off with very light coats and build them up gradually .That should work ,mmaybe use a bit more paint that way ? See how you go? Thats how I do my two tone paint scheme , but your mask looks a lot thinner than Tamiya tape. It still should work , I hope or else I,m gonna have egg on my face !!
