51 merc custom
Maybe I need a life or to start watching tv again...........nah I'll just p everyone off and start yet another model lol. Jimmy Flinstone, Hirohata merc (I think, had it for a while cant remember). Using amt 49 modified chassis and sectioned interior. This is the ride hight and the spoon is the colour everything above the chrome trim will be, below the trim will be gloss black. Staying with steelies and will add white walls to the tires.

Re: 51 merc custom
The Hirohata merc is one of my favourite custom cars of all time and I like it in the original colours and I always thought that they were the only colour that would suite the car but after seeing that red I am now a covert I think that they will suit it and I can't wait to see it painted
I will be following this built

Re: 51 merc custom
And the guy who has had the original car since buying it off a used car lot in the 1950s has recently completed the full restoration.allan wrote: They made copy of the real car some years ago.
To see it up close and personal and then to see the tools that Sam Barris used to build it, gives one a whole different level of respect fpr the crafstmen who built these incredible custom cars back in the day.

Re: 51 merc custom
Aye that it does Carps, I was taught how to do some of it when I was a teenager including how to cold weld with gas (I can weld panel steel together with little to no warpage , one of my few skills).
Back to the merc, dont know what mold release they used but talk about a bitch to remove, took a couple of attempts to get it to where the primer would stick. Then smoothed off with some 2000 then sprayed the black for the base. Havent got anymore of that red that was on the spoon and worse still have no record of what it was , so sprayed some more spoons black and sprayed each with a different red polish.
from left no.22 then red silk ,then no.14 ,then the original spoon. Went with no.14

Re: 51 merc custom
looking great so far,you have to write the colour down and put it in the kit box next time have you thought about using some of the bling powder from the parts box, they have a cool range of colours.

Re: 51 merc custom
thanks Allan, as long as I write it on the spoons, other thing is, as I only buy nail polish from the $2.00 shops they quite often dont get it again. No its too much of a pain in the butt to import stuff unless you're (me) spending a lot to make the postage worthwhile. I have PPG red, white, yellow, green, blue, gold, lilac and russet pearl paints and a few pearl nail polishes as well as Dupont white and black pearls , so have a few to choose from.
The thing with me tho is (and no wisecracks either) in my stash of around 250 kits (roughly, havent counted for awhile) is that 90% of them were brought to build a specific car(at least reasonably closely) including the colour so Its only the other 10% I get to play with colourwise.
