Thanks Geoff - I want to build something along these lines, but am missing the stripes that run down the sides and up over the cowl.

All looking good. It's no surprise that we have most '68 to'70 as that shape is the best looking muscle car ever.
Bryce - I built the '71 kit a while back and can remember no problems. I used the decals before you ask otherwise you could have them.
No one got a '66 or '67 to build?

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
Finally I've started on this one, you guessed it, a '68 Charger.
I'm going to fill the 68 with goodies from the '06 Dodge magnum SRT8 kit.
I want to use all the running gear from the Magnum but figuring out how to mount everything to the 68's chassis was difficult. I figured if I had the '06 floor pan in the '68 frame rails, then I should be able to mount the rear parts without too much problems and still have the '68 chassis that fits.
So I figured out where would be the best places to cut and went for it. The '68 chassis is the white one and the black chassis is the donor.
I filled most of the gaps with clear plastic before giving it a quick hit of flat black. In the last two pics you can see I need to clean it up a bit around the fuel tank but other than that, it turned out pretty good.
The inpsiration
This one's from Westcoast Customs. They put a '68 Charger body on a new (not sure what year) Charger SRT8. The client was Gary Dourdan who plays Warrick Brown on CSI.
For the record, I don't completely agree with mutliating such a classic like a 68 Charger, but I do like things that are modified. One things for sure, I'm not using the '06 dash!

cooool, nice one Joe.
perhaps my soft spot for the hidden lights is to blame, these Chargers are roooly cool.
pardon my Yank car ignorance, but what year is the General Lee? cause i got that an the 68 Dodge Charger kit. I read somewhere that the General kit was not of the correct year, the back window, apparently, is wrong in the General Lee kit? as to the actual car? help anyone?

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
General Lee was a '69 R/T, I have an old MPC General Lee (not sure what the AMT one is like, maybe they're the same kit IDK). The MPC kit I've got is actually a Charger 500, Dodge's more streamlined NASCAR warrior. The R/T has a recessed rear window, the 500 doesn't. There are a few other inaccuracies with the kit too, including pins on the bonnet and boot (which the real General Lee didn't have).
Best bet would probably be to use Revell's '69 R/T, sand out the vinyl roof and use AMT's or MPC's decals/wheels/nudge bar/etc.

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
The AMT one is the same as the MPC one but they have fixed the body on the newer release and put the R/T rear window in it. The only prob with the Revell 69 is it has a vinyl look roof but a bit of sanding will fix that, other than that, it's a much better kit, as Mopar said, use the wheels and decals from the MPC/AMT kit.
Will we actually see this one come off the bench Big Brother??

Looking good but I do not like he wheels on the 1:1. I've hit paint snags with my '68. It's had a bath and should now be back on track when the humidity drops here.
If I was building a General i'd use the Revell '68 body with the Revell '69 grille & rear panel and the wheels & nudge bar from the MPC General. I'd scratch up a roll cage, print decals for the rectangular '69 marker lights and get aftermarket decals for the flag, numbers & name.
The latest MPC General release has now had the body corrected from the Charger 500 to the "normal" type.
FWIW when I built a General aged about 16 I was mighty disapointed to find that due to political correctness there was no flag on the decal sheet.

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
I'll join in this one as well. Well I'll start it anyway.
Doing something a bit different, a '68 model.
Made a start on this last night, by turning a Viper into a curbside (once I re-assemble it), so I think you can work out what I'm attempting to do. This engine choice seems to be a popular one for this as well. Which is good, so I can stea...... borrow some ideas that others have done. No ideas on colours etc yet, but I hardly ever stick to my first thoughts anyway. Usually cos I stuff the paint up the first time or two.

Some pretty sweet work there everyone. I'll get back into mine in the next couple weeks. Been a little side-tracked on another project that should be finishing very soon.

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
Made a little progress, but not much so far.
I've been tinkering with the engine bay so far to make sure that this engine fits properly. After some trimming here and there I've made it fit so far, although it's tighter than I first thought.
Here you go zenrat, pointing the right way now
The bonnet isn't actually touching anywhere, although it does look like it.
I don't think this air intake can stay as it is. I'm guessing the radiator will get in the way, so I might have to have a crack at either modifying the tubes, or making some new ones. Same thing with the upper radiator hose as it seems to touch the inner fender.

That engine looks insanely huge in there, best of luck getting it all to fit.
Zen, I love that colour, very nice.

Finally done a little bit more to this and thought I'd add the pics so that it'll remind me to keep working on this one. Got the first colour on and now I'm trying to work out the design of the 2-tone colours.
And yes, I know the smoke detector should be on the roof, but I needed the battery and didn't have any other spares around the house. I must also put that back up. Another reminder that these pics will serve for me.

Re: Dodge Charger Community Build - Any Year, Any Kit, the more the merrier.
Got a little more paint on there. Now I need to fix up some overspray and get to work on the rest.
I had originally thought about doing an all purple chariot when I first got this kit as a friends dad had one when I was about 12 or so. Thought it was the greatest thing, then I grew up and got better tastes. I think that this works fairly well together and goes better (IMHO) with the pro-touring look that I was after.
thought I'd try something a bit different, yet still take some styling cues from the R/T's that I found pics of on the net. I realised that the M would be easier for me to try out than the R/T I originally contemplated.
The over spray here might be easiest to fix, as I'm thinking of removing these inner guards totally. Might make the engine and front wheels easier to fit as well.

Nice.
Mine is nearing completion (about time too they say).
So probably only another couple of weeks and you'll see some pics
I glued the rear panel, firewall & radiator support panel in place before painting the body.
This was a mistake as it made it very hard to get the interior, engine & chassis in place.
