Tri-Five Community Build
Hello All,
I put this idea up as a possible G.A.S. or community build in the G.A.S section, some people have expressed an interest.
I was thinking any car or truck etc that was manufactured in 1955, 1956 or 1957. That way everyone can be involved. That way the blue oval people don't have to improve their collections by building a , and us Chevy people don't have to ruin our collections. When I say all, I mean all welcome. If you have been wanting to build "Christine", or a mercedes gullwing (if they make that as a kit). But I am hoping to see a lot of Chevy's.
I have no particular style in mind, so go as crazy as you want, or build OOB. I'm gonna try and do 2 soon, so this will hopefully motivate me. I have a 57 that's 1/4 - 1/2 way done, depending on how I feel my skills are going, and a 56 that I have done next to nothing on. Hoping to make a 2 door post into a 4 door (replicate what I'm hoping my 1:1 will eventually look like).
Anyone who's interested, post your build pics here.
So here's what I've done so far.
The '56
I've removed the post to bring it forward, to match the shorter front doors. Hopefully I can use the removed piece, otherwise I'll have to make new posts for it.
The '57
This is how it started. Glue bomb resto underway.
Removed the front quarter windows
Removed the inner guards
Some scratchbuilding underway (first time)
Some paint to see how it may look (not really, thinking of totally different colour to this, and still have more scratchbuilding to do)
And now I'm just starting to modify the chassis to get the ride height, wheels to fit etc. Hopefully I'll be modifying the interior as well. Would love to convert to RHD, but don't think my skills are there yet, as I'm trying to make an "inspired by" car. But it may have to be an American version of an Aussie car.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
I win
For your conversion Chevy, take the measurements from your 1:1 in inches, then measure in mm's on the model, 1 inch 1:1 = 1mm on the model, HTH, if you didn't know already that is
This will be my build for this one, cheating a bit, already got it painted but put it away, so thing can be my motivation. Haven't chosen wheels or donk yet but rest assured it won't be stock.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
The Chevy Tri Five represents what most people believe to be the best years of Chevrolet. The cars manufactured in 1955, 1956, and 1957 are still considered by most to be the most recognized American cars in history. Though mainly recognised is the Bel Air, there was also the Chevy 210, 150, and the Nomad. It is one of the most recognisable years of Classic American cars.
I might get in on this one but im not sure yet.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
Funny thing is, I've still got a few to build. Got another 55 2dr post, 2 55 Sports coupes, a 55 Nomad rebuild, a 57 4dr to finish, about 3 or 4 57 Sports coupes, my 56 Gasser is still happening (4th paint job getting stripped at the mo) a 56 Nomad, a 57 Nomad doorslammer and my Black Widow. Want the new 2dr post 57 Bel Air as well.doorslammerfan wrote:

Rob, the flamed 56 was for my Daughter, she new what she wanted, pink flames, so that's what she got. The green 55 Nomad is hers as well.

C'mon Tubman, you haven't won yet. This is all about the TRI 5 cars and you haven't got a '57 in the lot.
Good to see you're building one of your '57's finally even if it is one that a lot of laymen will dismiss as a '55 anyway. I can't count the number of times I've been looking at a 150 series and been told "that's not a '57 Chev" or "why has he put '55 trim on it?"
But love your collection anyway, wish my shelf looked like that.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
Cheers for the tip Tubman on the measuring up. I was getting to that stage very soon hopefully, now I know.
Tubman: Geez, you've built more tri-fives than I own. Actually, you are still building probably more than I own. I've got 2 55's (one nomad, one belair coupe). 3 56's (1 finished (Belair Coupe) and I think featured somewhere here, the delray (soon to be a 210 4 door post) and another one I've tried to make into a convertible (it may get finished one day). 1 57 which is shown above.
Checkmate: I got confused on the Christine cos it was built in 57 but you're right about it being the 58 body. So ignore that one.
Sports850: Maybe it's time to build another one.
I haven't thought about a time-frame, but was thinking if it is just a community build like the super bee one was, anyone who gets started will hopefully get peer pressure to finish it off as I'm sure all of us want to see them finished.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
Know what you are saying about the 150 Spiritman, it's funny they were the bare bones 57 when they came out, called a seden utility or something, didn't even have a bag seat in them, they were made for salesmen to get their whares in but now they are fairly rare beasties. Not commanding big prices yet I don't think, some people just don't know about em.
Another 56 fact for you, did you know they did a 210 sports coupe, I didn't till I saw one.
Don't know why I haven't done the 57's, just never found the right colour/wheel combo I guess (I like 55 and 56 better too)
Chevy, lol, I forgot about the 1:12 57 to build, 1:16 57 convertable to finish and the 55 4dr in the other cabinet.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
Tubman: Thanks for reminding me, I also have a 57 Convertible 1:12 to finish off.
These (according to the net and that never lies) are the body styles for the 56 chevy Belair, 210 and the 150. If you tri-five chev fans haven't checked it out yet, you should check out the trifive.com website. Plenty of inspiration over there.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
Yeah Christine was built in '57. My a55hole brother bought her back in September 57, thats when you got your new model year in September, brand new she was. She had the smell of a brand new car and thats just about the finest smell in the world, 'cept maybe for pussy.

Re: Tri-Five Community Build
I like the look of the '56 4 door wagons.
I will be joining in the fun with a Mustang motored '56 Ford Vic done in 80's street machine style.
I've started on the donk but anything else will have to wait until I get the Monte Delivery together.
