Re: XE Falcon S-Pack ** so anyway 8 years later- **
Thanks guys. After my frustrations of a few weeks ago I decided to leave any major construction aside and just do a little plumbing. I've only ever fully detailed one engine before so I'm still pretty new to it. As this is morphing into a super detail monster I figured I would go to town on everything so here goes.
The first thing I did was to make the clutch actuator cable and the dust cover that goes on the bellhousing. The wire goes into a bit of brass tube that sticks out of the firewall next to the brake booster.
Then I made the EGR valve that sticks out of the side of the intake manifold. That will be plumbed to the exhaust manifold by a bit of ProTech braided hose.
I also made the throttle cable and mounted it to a bracket made from Coke can with some PE washers and a spring that was made from a guitar string.
It's mounted to the back of the carby with some PE parts and the cable goes all the way to the firewall on the other side of the brake booster.
I drilled out the dizzy and added a vacuum advance unit.
I added some plug wires and a ignition coil. It's all happening on that side of the block.
I also wacked some heater hoses on it too. I need to figure out some sort of clamps for them too but I'll worry about that during final construction.
There's another hose that goes from the intake manifold to the brake booster and a radiator overflow hose added too.
I also put a hose on the air cleaner and was thinking about a couple more later.
It's starting to look a bit busy in the engine bay and I am yet to add the fuel, aircon and the brake lines as well as the battery cables. I have also been tossing up wether or not to add some of the fiddly vacuum hoses that the manual / aircon optioned Falcons had. I also think I need to clean up the way the ignition wires are sitting as they look a bit messy.
CheersSS

Re: XE Falcon S-Pack ** so anyway 8 years later- **
Super detailing an engine bay is tricky, if you don't get it right it ends up looking overcrowded. But you sir, have it spot on so far in my opinion.
Amazing work, as always
For the hose clamps, I've seen people use strips of BMF, with a small piece of wire glued on for the screw bit, for the strap sort clamps-
^NOT MY WORK^
For the wire sort, I've seen wire used to good effect, wrapped around and closed with one twist-
^NOT MY WORK^
Just some suggestions, keep up the great work mate

Ha. It depends on the person, I'm not really a people person and I don't suffer fools all that well..........but you blokes are tops
Thanks guys, here's a little something to ponder. Yesterday morning while I was out doing the bread and paper run someone broke into my house through the kitchen window. They stole my spare change bowl ( about $80 mostly $1's and $2's) and get this... They stole.....my pin vice and the .4mm drill bit that was in it. That was all. WHAT THE FUUUUUQ????
All of my diecast models, my computer, my watch, my credit card, my mountain bike and my golf clubs were all where I left them but they just had to take the one thing that I needed???? Obviously I'm pissed about the break in and the coins but I'm totaly pissed about my pin vice and more so the drill bit. Sheesh...
So I'll have to order some new bits and a pin vice too so it looks like things are on hold until I get those.

Silly buggers probably though it was a needle!
With regards the amount of "connections" in the engine bay you have to remember that back then the Manufacturers were still battling with emission control stuff & had maizes of tubes, connectors & little plastic valves everywhere & even in the base Falcon they varied from model & even State. My Queensland XE had less plumbing in it than any NSW supplied car - who knows why, bottom line is all engine bays back then were messy & crowded. Congrats on the build again mate, I'm in awe
Brian
PS don't forget the little bulges in the emission tubes where we jambed in the ball bearings!

Sorry, but my .4mm bit broke and since the local hobby shop was closed I thought you would have one. Sorry about the change, but it helped with the airfare.

As I was reading ...I read someone broke in ...and my heart just sank!! I half expected the next line to read they stole or smashed the falcon ... Thank Cliff it was just a pin vice. You probably scared them off before they could have a good look around.
No doubt someone was watching you and your to'ing and fro'ing.

I do feel kinda guilty about the coins now, sorry mate...
No good mate, kinda weird how they'd take the pinvise like that though hey

Just crazy.. Love it! As for clamps detail master do pe clamps that look really good. You can buy stuff directly off their web site if you can't find them anywhere else. I have used them on my last 2 builds and they look just right. Notches for the worm screw and everything.

Yeah I know where you're coming from there. The Gregory's workshop manual has 8 different configurations for the emissions hoses. Depending on wether it had manual or auto or aircon or if it was from NSW or not.
I know which one I need to follow but its just a matter of how many of those dinky hoses I'll end up replicating.
As for the clamps, I have a couple of MCG PE ones to practice on but as MCG PE is slightly thicker than Detail Master I dont hold out hope of them bending around the smaller heater hoses too well.
I'll figure something out.

Ha Ha Yeah I'm dragging it out just for giggles (not coz I'm a slow builder ). I have secured a new pinvice and some drill bits but I haven't got around to using them yet but I did spend the weekend doing some casting so I'll throw you all some pics as soon as I feel the time is right.

Re: XE Falcon S-Pack ** so anyway 8 years later- **
Hi guys. I haven't done any construction work recently so there's been no progress in that area but I have spent the last couple of weeks resin casting the interior. As I have previously stated I am making two Falcons so I needed to cast enough parts for those two and as well as as one more complete interior to be set aside as spares just in case.
All parts are cast with either Easycast (The white parts) or SuperCast (the tan parts) resin.
I already had one interior tub so I only had to cast two. The one in the centre has some air bubbles which were easily filled with superglue mixed with talc powder.
Next was the door cards. I didn't originally intend to cast the window crank handles as part of the front door cards but as I forgot to take them off I'll have to live with it.
The dash was tricky to make a mould for. I ended up ditching the first mould and making a new one. Don't get me started on the steering wheel either.
I decided to split the manual console into two pieces for easier casting.
I had already cast some of the front seats and head rests so I just had to do the other parts.
Enough parts for 3 complete interiors.
The only other work that I had done this week was to spray some primer onto the chassis and mark out the areas that need to be fixed. I'm not going to cast the whole chassis just the centre section to help add detail to the curbside chassis.
Casting can be pretty frustrating and tedious at times but when things come out good it makes it worth the time and effort.
Cheers for now.

Looking at this stuff, it just shows how well you built all the original parts. Everything fits together so well.
Excellent casting work Shawn, I'd be really interested in seeing the mold for that steering wheel, if you don't mind
Very inspiring work mate, makes me want to start some crazy project of my own
