back seat driver
Here is my first attempt at a complete scratch built sprintcar chassis, for something different I have made a twin seater to replicate Robbie Farr's Eastcoast Piplines oufit, still heaps to do but here is the starting point for this build

Re: back seat driver
Wow that is complicated. Are you using metal or plastic tube for this? How do you keep it all aligned correctly?
Fascinating build so far mate!

Re: back seat driver
Tezza thanks for the nice comment and interest mate, this i made from evergreen rod, i used 1.6 mm for the major bar work and 1.2 mm for the nerf bars and gusset bars, to start with i made two identical side sections in a jig, these were then clamped to a board i had drawn out with the positioning of the lower bars on, i used the firewall from a Revell sprintcar kit and clamped it with alligator clips to the two chassis sections where it should locate, so that the sides would sit at the correct angle, i glued the lower cross bars in first, then did the middle then the top, allowing the glue to dry on each level before i started the next when all this was done i did the angled seat supports and front cross bars, mate it was very fiddly i can assure you, there may have been an easier way, as i said this is my first time at scratching a chassis, anyway it came out how i wanted it to so i am happy, hope you understand my dribble mate, once again thanks for the interesttezza43 wrote:Wow that is complicated. Re: back seat driver
Sweet looking chassis, do you use heat for bending the rod?

Re: back seat driver
no Kane i bent them without heat the top cross rails were bent to shape in a jig, then i ran a flame from a bic lighter quickly over them to hold that shape thoughKane wrote:Sweet looking chassis, do you use heat for bending the rod?

Re: back seat driver
Bit of progress made on this build to date, have scratched up some side covers, got the fuel tank mounted and started on the wings, made new sides to look a bit more up to date on wings, the seats are scratch made as well, still heaps to do yet, pics are only for a rough mock up to give an idea of how it will look
