John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Sunday morning October 30th, today is the 19th John's Rod & Kustom Picnic and it's going to be a good one. So, grab the tribe, wipe the dust of the rod or kustom and get down to Lardner Park near Warragul for a relaxing day of fun with old friends and old cars.
John will be there in spirit and his Deuce Coupe in person.
As we know, half the fun is getting there and it's a great drive, not nearly as far as you might think.
Of course, sometimes the fun is in the little adventures along the way.
This is the result of using Ford schitt in a Chevy.
Disintegrated an axle bearing, melted the axle and chewed up a brand new set of brake pads and a few other bits.
But it all ended well thanx to the KOA rescue team and the car will make it home safely.
The turnout yesterday was better than anticipated and everybody was having a great time.
Well, almost everybody.
Today, there'll be more of the same and plenty of live music too.
Lots of cool stuff to buy the kids too.

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
There's always plenty of refreshments available at the Picnic, or you can bring your own.
Did I mention everybody has fun?
There's even plenty of old MOPARS attend.
And yesterday, the Austin A40 pick-up club was out en mass, they also picked up an honorary non Austin member.
These little pommy pick up trucks make neat hot rods.
And there was music too.
Cruising also.

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Here's some pics of some of the neat cars that were at the Picnic yesterday.
Sorry about the sun glare, but it was just one of those great spring days and today is going to be even better weather wise.
How do you like your deuces, black?
Red?
Or red with black wheels?
How about your coffee? Latte, Cappucino, flat white or maybe something else?
There's plenty of room for hundreds of cars and your picnic stuff.
Even if your car is bigger than most, there's still room, so don't be afraid to bring it down.
And it matters not to us, if it's rusty,
Crusty,
Scary,
Or even shiney.
Chevy,
Ford,
we don't care, heck, we'll even welcome those who cruise in from out of state.
Likewise, if you've got pinstripes.
Then when the day is done and there's no more fun to be had, you can enjoy the drive home.
So, don't waste the day at home, grab the keys, load up the family and come on down to Lardner Park. Straight out the princess Freeway and follow the signs as you approach Warragul.
And don't forget to bring along a few models for the model car show, you may just go home with a neat trophy.

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Thanks for the pics Carps - some fine machinery there.
I only hope the weather is kind to you all in Warragul - it's bucketing down in Mornington (Sunday morning), and the Mornington Cup is on today. Last year it was cancelled due to heavy rain and postponed to a later date. Hope you make out better.

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Chopper was supposed to talk with the big guy and cover the weather issues when he got to where he was going, so I can only figure somebody down here has pissed him off, coz it rained a little yesterday.
Not as much rain here as in the big smoke and 'burbs, but clearly enough to dampen the spirit of lesser folks than those who braved the conditions and came out to the park regardless.
Cars started rolling in early and there was a steady 'stream' (pun intended) all day long.
Folks came in roadsters,
Coupes,
Yoots,
Pick-up trucks,
Phantoms,
and Tri-Five Chevies.
There was Tubs,
Wagons
And even shoebox Fords.
Lots of shoebox Fords!

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Everybody brought their sense of humour, some more than others.
Some possibly got a tad wetter than others getting there.
But everybody enjoyed the great music.
And got to see some cars you won't see every day, like this rare Rambler Royce, one of only a handful built.
This is a copy of a Rolls Royce body on a Rambler Chassis and drivetrain.
Not to your taste? Then how about an Excallibur?
Regardless of the weather some people travelled from far away places to get in on the fun, we even had the Cranksters of W.A. represented on the ground.
Dunno who dragged whom along, but Fred arrived in his roadster, which was kinda spooky coz it appeared not to have got wet on the trip down. Dunno how he does that.
Coming thru the gate at the same time, Gordon's 33 was dripping, maybe he got all of Fred's rain as well as his own fair share?
Billy must have figured if he parked as close to the stage as possible the hot music would turn the moisture to steam and dry his '40 coupe out.
Some of the neat later cars seemed to be better suited to the conditions.
So too some of the older cars had all the mod cons and comfort features in their weather-tight bodies.
Some of the late models were not so common.
And some folks were having too much fun just getting there, so they went the long way and arrived late.
But best of all nobody complained and everybody made the most of an average day and had a good time.
Yeah it's the one with a Hemi in it.
When the last band played their last note, the sun finally came out from behind the grey clouds.

Re: John's Rod & Kustom Picnic - Today!
Hey Carps - in the pic of the Coffee Shop pickup vehicle, there's a female model on rollerskates in the left background. Got a closer pic of her please? Reminds me of "American Graffiti".
