Re: 1950 Ford F-1 Nastruck
Thanks guys
I've been battling with decals the last few days, trying to find the right ones. I found these Raybestos Brakes decals which I thought looked perfect but a couple of them didn't stick so I had to rip them off.
Now my problem was I don't have anymore race decals, only hot rod stuff.
I used the Slammin' Hammer decals from the '41 Chevy PU and some Slixx decals, the sponsor decals are from here and there.
I'm so over looking at decals right now, I'm seriously considering stripping it back and doing a proper Ford tribute and paint it pearl white with blue stripes. If I had one big Ford Racing decal for the bed cover, I'd probably do it!
Kinda like these.

Re: 1950 Ford F-1 Nastruck
Brilliant modeling on every level: concept, execution and ultimate result!
The Raybestos decals really are the ones, IMHO. Have you considered making your own? The Raybestos logo is black and red so they can readily be printed on an inkjet over clear stock and they'll show up fine against the silver color. There's a ton of Raybestos logo art on the web (see: https://www.google.com/search?q=Raybestos+logo&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=s6VWUvjoLoK6yQGquIDQCw&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=745&dpr=1 ). I do this sort of thing a lot on my models. I measure the shape and area where I want to apply the decals, design the art, and then "wrap" it on photos of the model using Photoshop to make sure it looks good. Below is an example of what I mean:

Re: 1950 Ford F-1 Nastruck
If I didn't already see what it looks like with Raybestos decals then I'd probably leave it as is. But I also think the Raybestos logo is the way to go.
You're right Bernard, I should simply make my own. I can never find the right decals and have always wanted to print my own but I've never tried. You decals look great, you've inspired me to try and make my own. I read your post on Friday and came home with a new printer that afternoon and ordered some decal paper. Over the weekend, I've been messing around with a program called Inkscape and tutorials on youtube. I think by the time my decal paper arrives I'll have a good idea on how to make logos.
Cheers!

Re: 1950 Ford F-1 Nastruck
Glad I could help in adding another dimension to your modeling. That's what I like so much about auto modeling, it has the potential to draw on so many different creative aspects. I have done projects based largely on designing decals for otherwise OOB builds. Your truck, on the other hand, is a true multi-threat showpiece. I hope your initial effort goes well (given the rest of the project I suspect it will). Feel free to contact me with any questions. I've been doing this sort of thing for quite some time and have made more than my share of mistakes and can probably BS my way through most problems...
BTW, I chose the Fiat above because it contains most aspects of the decal techniques I have developed. As an example, the "grill" outline was done by wrapping the kit grill in masking tape, trimming the edges, then laying the tape piece down flat on a piece of paper and scanning it. I then used Photoshop to make a red line around the inside of the grill shape. That car also has several small accent decals like the "Chrysler Power by Jacks" ones, that I think are often as important as the major pieces in establishing the tone of the completed car.
The NAStruck F-1 is awesome and I can't wait to see it in full mega-Raybestos regalia!
