G'day guys... just a coupla pics to show my first "semi" airbrush job.

Started with a purple auto acrylic base, then applied 3 coats "Purple Passion"
metallic nail polish. Applied the Flame mask (from Lazy Modeller), masked up
the car, then applied 2 coats of "Moon Silver" nail polish.

3 coats of Tamiya Clear Blue for the flames. The only paint that was applied by
rattle can was 2 coats "Cabot's" Polyurethane Clear. What do you fellas reckon?

Nice job Jerry. The flames really suit the Willys and that "cabots" clear looks dynamite!

Thanks guys for your comments. I was toying with airbrushing
a bit more detail into the tips of the flames, but thought that the
subtle flames looked good also on this car.
Might try to be more "adventurous" on the next paint job.
Anyway time to knuckle down and get this one built.

Cheers everyone for the comments & suggestions.

Looks great, what's the Cabot's clear like to use? And where did you get it from?

G'day "Checkmate"...very nice to use with a great gloss finish.
Make sure of course you're in a reasonably dust free area as this
being enamel based, takes a few hours to dry.
I use a 'Tac-rag' over the model, then apply a light first coat. Let this tack
off a bit then apply a nice 2nd coat.  If it's a warm sunny day (no wind etc),
then let it dry out in the sun, or tuck the model away in a dust free cupboard.
I then leave the model for a few days for the clear to cure. Very nice results.
I bought this at Bunnings, but any major Paint or Hardware store should
stock it.     Cheers... Jerry

Is good.

bigthumbsup

I have a food dehydrator which although it isn't really needed at this time of year is an ideal dust free (and more to the point knock proof) place to keep freshly painted bodies.
I wonder how much that clear will yellow?

G'day Fred... Good question. This Clear is more a "polyurethane" base paint
rather than your everyday "Enamel". I also asked the question as to it's "Yellowing"
and it's "Applied Life" properties, and I was told that "Polys" could well keep the clear
gloss finish up to 6 to 8 years?. depending on conditions and if it's subject to sunlight etc.
So I'm assuming that once the model is built and "glossed" with this Cabots clear, and tucked away
in a nice cosy display cabinet, it should real good for at least 8 years???.
Who knows?... I might not be around long enough to find out!... jeebus

Anyway, all I can say is, that the end finish is really really nice!!!.

Yellowing isn't really that much of an issue anyway with purple but it might give a green hue to the flames over time which would be good in my book as I love purple and green together.
