A pair of '40 Fords
I got these together. Both Revell. The ragtop had no chrome or chassis so I scratched up some rails and had a rummage for wheels.
The idea is a nostalgia drags altered with a matching tow car. I'll use the AMT '76 Caprice trailer as the basis of the , um, trailer.
This is Thelma.
Donk is Revell '32 3 window Ford 5 litre, wheels are AMT '71 Duster Street Machine.
This is Louise.
Donk is AMT Parts Pack early Hemi, front wheels are AMT Parts Pack 12 spokes with Funny car tyres, rear wheels are (IIRC) AMT Parts Pack with Monogram NASCAR slicks and front end is Revell '31 Ford dropped axle.
Both will be yellow and white.

Thanks Paul.
I had the '40 coupe chassis to use as a template which helped.

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Thanks all.
Too late Monaro, I put yellow on them at the weekend.
They'll both get white scallops when the yellows gassed out and i've resprayed Thelma's bonnet due to a stray hair (D'oh!).
Louise's skull will be white with scallops running back from it.
You might love her from that angle Monaro but as the '40 ford is a bit wider than a '32 she's definately got childbearing hips.

Brilliant work - Louise is my favourite here (perhaps because it also brings back memories of a former AMCC club president)? Then again the coupe is awesome too???

Very cool - nice work. That drag car could definitley do with a bit of weight reduction in the rear though...

Trailer? Yes. I have the one from the AMT '76 Caprice which i'm going to butcher.

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Well now i've cut down the bonnet support (the rod sticking up in front of the engine) I can again put the bonnet on so I may shoot some pics tonight.
Or maybe i'll mask it up and shoot some white?
Started on Louise's roll cage yesterday, reshot Thelma's bonnet with yellow and started work on the trailer (narrowed it, lost the tilting bed and scratched up some dualie wheels).

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Yes, they were.
I must remember to not use light coloured enamels ever again as they are bastards for keeping clean. Most of the grubby fingerprints have cleaned off but I've got some discolouring from underpaint BMF on Thelmas bonnet. Hopefully clearing the bodies with One-Go before more foiling will prevent this with the rest of the BMF.
I've put some white onto Louise's bonnet and edged it with red to match the decals i'll be using. The edging I did by hand so it's slightly shonky as my hands aren't the steadiest.
No more pics until completion.

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Yes Boss.
1st coat of clear going on the bodies tomorrow.
Louise broke a tooth last night but I called in a dentist and it's OK.
I also found that I hadn't lost one of Thelma's windows - it was just hiding at the bottom of the box. So that was a small win.

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Thanks guys.
Trailer frame is together and is in the primer/sanding stage. I widened the kit mudguards using sections of the cap of a silicone sealant aerosol which is "oily" plastic so i'll be interested to see if the paint sticks to it. Epoxy does so i'm hoping it's OK.
I've cut up some resin tread plate for the trailer floor but want to paint the frame before I glue it in.
There will also be a delay now while I wait for more tread plate to arrive to use to widen the ramps (I want to ba able to use the trailer for a range of models so it has to have ramps wide enough for big pro street tyres like on the AMT '70 Super Bee). Also resin toolbox and fuel cans. All resin from www.thepartsbox.com BTW
Haven't decided on a colour for the trailer but as it'll be used with different tow cars it probably won't be yellow. Blue is favourite ATM.

Re: A pair of '40 Fords
Coming along nicely but I keep thinking up new things to add to the trailer.
I primed it and did a coat of blue (Holden Deauville Blues as it's predominantly to be hooked up to a Fnord) on the underside and then realised I had nowhere for the ramps to hook onto.
And now i want to add drop down legs on all 4 corners so it will stay level when not attached to a car plus a frame at the front above the car to carry tyres etc.
Both cars are now attached to their chassis and i'm now working on Thelma's bumpers (found a set of Desoto ribbed bumpers in my parts box I didn't know I had but decided to save them for a '32), push board (stained balsa) and towbar. And yesterday I spent an hour battling with dodgy old BMF just to get a strip 20mm by 5mm for the chrome on the grille.
Also scratching up 'chute mounts etc for Louise and a pushbar (I swear i've got a spare one from a Revell '41 Willy's but can I find it?).
Louise's 'cage is done & in paint. I think it rather spoils her fat arsed looks as I built a 4 pointer. However while a simple 3 point loop would look better I think that as she's supposed to be a modern Nostalgia drags race car then that wouldn't cut it. Hopefully having the 'cage satin black will help it blend into the interior and make it less obtrusive visually.
Managed a whole weekends work on these without dropping or breaking them...
...there you go. That's just mozzed myself.
