Re: Masking tape adhesive residue
What brand of tape you using? I always use good quality stuff, like 3M. Found the cheap gear does exactly what your saying. Not really sure how to remove it "risk free"

Weird. That Tamiya tape is supposed to be pretty good.

Lick a cotton bud & rub at it?
Or, a solvent free, citrus based sticky stuff remover.
Do not use Bug & Tar remover. I found that out the hard way...

Re: Masking tape adhesive residue
Take a closer look. Is it actually residue or has the tape just left a textured mark?
The reason I'm asking is that I've had a problem with Tamiya tape when I have left it on the paint for a little too long and it left a mark that looks like adhesive residue but it's where the paint softened and took on the texture of the tape. I decided that I was going to strip the part anyway so I just shot a coat of clear over it to see what would happen and it levelled the paint out and the mark dissappeared. So if there isn't any sticky adhesive residue that comes off easily it could just be the same thing.

Re: Masking tape adhesive residue
You can also get a new bit of tape and tack it along the adhesive. The new tape should/may lift the old residue.
I use this method all the time on labels etc.
